The new episode of She-Hulk not only lowers the bar for how bad a Marvel show can be, it is worse than anything else on Disney+ at all.
Pam has asked that I take over this week’s review and I have to say that it was quite unpleasant watching She-Hulk today. And, in fact, I am going to do something that we have never done before with a review of any piece of media on That Park Place. In consultation with some others here at the site, we have agreed that this episode qualifies for our very first (and hopefully rarely given) lowest possible review score.
There’s not much to talk about in regards to a normal review of the episode. In a typical review, we would discuss the positives and negatives of what was just viewed. In this case, there are no positives. I mean that. In order to be up to speed on everything She-Hulk, I’ve made an attempt to watch all the prior episodes and I have generally agreed with the scores that we gave the show here on That Park Place. But I cannot give this show anything other than the lowest score because there’s not one good thing about it. I’m not trying to be mean or hyperbolic — I literally mean that I wasted thirty-five minutes of my life on that episode and there was zero benefit from sitting through it. I have to do so for the purposes of reviewing it. But I don’t recommend it to anyone for leisure.
I’d also normally say that if you enjoy this content, more power to you. But in this case, I don’t know what you could enjoy. I would rather watch the Garbage Pail Kids movie than this.
I would rather watch the Rainbow Brite movie than this.
And don’t get me wrong, those areĀ awful movies. They’re some of the worst things I’ve ever seen. But they’re better than She-Hulk’s fourth episode. There are at least very brief moments of thoughtfulness or cleverness buried in the otherwise rubbish that they are made of. Not She-Hulk. It’s just awful this week.
So a few highlights from the episode and then we’re moving on:
- The show has an alcoholic, drunken party girl take the stand while drunk.
- Wong is made into an absolute mockery.
- Jen Walters has a one-night stand with a muscle-man faux feminist after dating men of the lowest social quality.
- This show seems determined to present most, or all, men in that same vein.
- The one action sequence we get in this episode is like a mashup of Muppetvision 3D and Gremlins. Think of that in the worst possible way.
- Not a single joke lands.
- Every character in this show is somehow made even more unlikeable by the end of this.
Kevin Feige should be ashamed to have his name attached to this. It is absolutely terrible.
Review Score: 0/10 (Lacking Any and All Merit)
