The latest on That Park Place website stability, server issues and being banned on Twitter…
The last time we did an article on the situation for That Park Place, we mentioned that it’s usually a bad thing when you have to cover something about your own site. That’s not always true, however, and today the situation is a little better. Still, we’d rather be covering entertainment, theme parks, etc, than talking about ourselves.
BlueHost is our current server provider and they continue to be having significant problems with delivering stability to their customers. Officially they’ve said this is due to a “data center migration” resulting in “unplanned downtime.” Unfortunately for us, we had chosen BlueHost more than a year ago to host the site because of their 99.99% uptime. So much for that. A quick perusing of their Facebook page will show you numerous unhappy comments from website owners unpleased that their business has been greatly disrupted.
Although we have managed to keep the main page mostly available over the last six days, we have not been so successful at having articles load quickly and sometimes even at all. That seems to be improving today, but we’re still not out of the woods yet. All of this BlueHost service crash is also occurring at the same time we had planned to debut a host of new features, services and rollouts for That Park Place. Those are on hold. We are even in discussions about potentially migrating the entire site to a new company, but doing so while BlueHost is suffering such catastrophic downtime is difficult.
We have been unable to communicate this on Twitter because we were also permanently banned on Twitter at about the same time… literally within six hours. We have been given no explanation for the permanent ban but we have appealed the decision. We think it may be a case of mistaken identity? Hopefully there’s an update today. We have contingency plans for a permanent ban but we don’t want to implement those if this is all in error. We could suddenly activate our website to push all our stories to all of our author’s accounts on Twitter… but why take the risk of them also being banned if we may be out of this situation semi-soon?
We also recognize that some of you really want us to join Truth Social as a result. That’s definitely something we’re looking at — not as a political position but simply because we have to be able to communicate with fans. We’re still currently on Facebook, so at least there’s that.
So thank you to all of you who are sticking with us. Of course our readership plummeted over the last few days as people simply couldn’t load the site… but honestly, we’re amazed at how many of you continue to stick with us even when there’s clearly something up. It is a little frustrating to us that we were at the precipice of a huge milestone for readership that was also a game-changer for the site and our business model. This major hiccup may have put us anywhere from three to six months behind now. That’s no fun. But we will continue to weather the storm and continue to deliver all the news that should be fun on a daily basis. All of our writers are sticking with us and sticking with you.
Thank you for being a part of the ride with us. We truly appreciate it.
