One of the most musical theme parks in all the world is getting ready to throw a major “shindig” of a party as Dollywood Resort will have the first ever “I Will Always Love You” celebration in 2023.
For fifty years, Dolly Parton has been scoring hit after hit, not only in country music but also across a wide spectrum of musical genres. It’s sometimes a major surprise to people when they learn that Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” song was written not by Houston or one of her talented teammembers, but instead by Eastern Tennessee’s Dolly. It may have been Houston who popularized the incredible ballad, but it was Mrs. Parton who put the words and notes to paper.
So it is only fitting that Dollywood is celebrating Dolly’s biggest hits with a huge musical celebration coming this March. The first-of-its-kind special season of fun at the park will be a songwriter’s paradise with all sorts of festivities devoted to the art of making music. From the Dollywood website:
Celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of Dolly’s biggest hits, I Will Always Love You, during the all-new I Will Always Love You Celebration taking place March 11-April 8. This festive event kicks off the 2023 season commemorating the art of songwriting and the stories behind the songs. In addition to honoring Dolly’s iconic status as a songwriter, the event will recognize a number of noted and up-and-coming singers/songwriters with performances throughout the park. Look for special park décor and delicious culinary offerings as we celebrate this momentous occasion.
I for one can’t wait to go and check out this new special event. I only hope there are a few food specialty announcements made to go along with it. Well, that and I’d love to get to listen to world class banjo players. There’s just something about that difficult instrument that is otherworldly and beautiful.
Congratulations to Dollywood and Dolly Parton. I’ll see you soon.
