Cancel culture is climbing to new highs this week as a video game company publicly announces they have terminated an employee solely based on who she follows on social media.
In a cryptic tweet on Friday afternoon, Limited Run Games posted on Twitter that “[Limited Run Games] respects all personal opinions, however we remain committed to supporting an inclusive culture. Upon investigating a situation, an employee was terminated. Our goal as a company is to continue to foster a positive and safe environment for everyone.”

Despite their name, Limited Run Games is a company that produces massive runs of physical copies of games that would not normally be released on physical media. These voluminous releases are available at big box retailers across the nation.
The Limited Run Games twitter account offers no additional explanation of what inspired the post, with many responses wondering what happened and other accounts responding very negatively. Here is what we’ve been able to gather.
According to Ian Miles Cheong, a Twitter user by the name of “Purple Tinker hates elon” initiated a “witch hunt” against a Limited Run Games community manager by the name of Kara Lynne because Lynne posted positively about looking forward to the release of the new Harry Potter game, Hogwart’s Legacy.
An examination of the Twitter account reveals the Purple Tinker has taken credit for a Twitter exposé showing that Kara Lynne follows Libs of Tik Tok, an account that reposts LGBT content from Tik Tok on other platforms, and Ian Miles Cheong. According to screen shots, both of these accounts were blocked by Purple Tinker, showing up in vibrant red when Purple Tinker manually scrolled through Lynne’s Twitter likes, following, and replies to find unfavorable materials.
The user also posted a screen shot of a 2016 tweet by Kara Lynne that could be viewed as transphobic, screen shots of additional accounts that Kara Lynne followed like Glenn Beck, Tim Allen, Gina Carano, and Arielle Scarcella.
From what I’m reading, Kara Lynne, a Community Manager at Limited Run Games, tweeted something positive about Harry Potter.
Some psycho went through her Twitter and found she liked “transphobic” (Blair White? LOL) accounts, so they Karened. She was fired, within 24 hours. pic.twitter.com/51Rnb0X1QY

Some of Kara Lynne’s tweets had to be pulled from archive sites, presumably because they had been deleted. The initial tweet thread ended with a screenshot of $1,200 worth of Limited Run Games pre-orders being cancelled (presumably by Purple Tinker) and a repetition of a previous tweet from Kara Lynne.
Late Friday, Purple Tinker posted “UPDATE: SHE WAS FIRED.”
Additional posts from the account indicate that Purple Tinker frequently engages in this kind of investigative behavior with the intent to punish viewpoints deemed unfavorable.
As of the writing of this article, Kara Lynne’s Twitter account has been set to private. We wish Mrs. Lynne the best and denounce terminating individuals based on their political and/or social media followings. Unless someone is following accounts that produce illegal or extremely unethical content, it’s a dangerous world to live in where one can lose their job over who they read.
