Wait a minute… is Nintendo pulling a Sega Saturn trick with Metroid Prime Remastered? For those of you not old enough to remember, that means the game may be out even before the announcement!
Rumors of a Metroid Prime Remaster for Nintendo Switch have been simmering for years. Especially with the release of Metroid Dread last year and the long-delayed Metroid Prime 4 still in development, fans have been wondering if Nintendo would add to the hype by updating one of the best-selling GameCube titles ever so that modern audiences could have a chance to experience their First Person Adventure series.
After all, the last time we saw an update to Metroid Prime was when the Wii collection Metroid Prime Trilogy was re-released on the Wii U eShop. With that portion of the eShop shut down, there were no legal ways to obtain Metroid Prime on even the previous generation of hardware. Physical copies of Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Wii (especially in a steelbook) can go for prices that are not welcoming to new players.
Well, as Nintendo is prone to do, they held a Nintendo Direct on February 8 where they announced that the Metroid Prime Remastered was now available. Like right now. The title was already available on the Nintendo Switch eShop that day for $40. Physical media fans were relieved to find out that Nintendo would also be releasing physical copies of the game on February 22.
Of course, you might not have to wait that long. In a discussion with a representative from Nintendo, our source revealed that physical copies for Metroid Prime Remastered for Nintendo Switch have already starting shipping to retailers and that, unlike most releases, retailers have been cleared to go ahead and sell whatever copies come into their possession BEFORE 2/22.
I was told by a Nintendo rep today that physical copies of Metroid Prime Remastered for Switch have shipped out and that retailers are cleared to put them on shelves immediately.

If you’re hoping to score a copy, you might want to go ahead and place a pre-order or get in touch with your local retailer.
Happy hunting.
