Disney World Disrespects Military Members with Latest Change

For decades, Shades of Green Resort at Walt Disney World has been an oasis for military members and their families. Now, changes at Disney World are resulting in significantly decreased service to those families.

The Polynesian Resort, The Grand Floridian, The Contemporary… Shades of Green. You may not have heard of the last of those hotel resorts, yet Shades of Green is right there in proximity with the other monorail resorts. Outside its balconies sits The Magnolia golf course. Special bus service takes guests to an from the various locations around Disney World. But perhaps one of the best parts of staying at Shades of Green — a hotel exclusively for military families — was that you could walk from Shades of Green to the Polynesian in minutes. That essentially made Shades of Green a monorail hotel, with all the perks that come from it.

But changes are coming. The road separating The Polynesian and Shades of Green is switching to a four-lane highway. And instead of simply building a walk-over pedestrian bridge for Shades of Green military families, some of whom have given everything in the act of protecting the nation, Disney World is uninterested in taking care of the situation. It costs too much.

So instead, Shades of Green will be separated from the rest of Walt Disney World Resort for the first time in its history. It is now isolated so that only bus transportation and parking in other parking lots (along with the associated fee) is viable. The path connecting it with the Polynesian, and thus all of Disney World premiere transportation, has been closed permanently.

It is a sad and reprehensible action by Disney World. For all the things they might say about military members and how much they support them, this is a huge slap in the face.

And all it would take to show military families they care is a little pedestrian bridge.

But apparently that would be too hard.
