Splash Mountain Voted Most Popular Ride Even After Destruction

A recent study shows that Splash Mountain is the most popular ride at the domestic Disney Parks… even as they destroy it. Perhaps the magic is being wiped away as well?

Disney Parks are in the midst of changing their beloved Splash Mountain attraction to something loosely based on Princess and the Frog.  However, the idea that you can just reskin a log flume ride and get the same sort of response is a foolish endeavor indeed.

New research conducted by Disney travel planning experts MagicGuides reveals the most popular Disney rides at the theme park, with the ghost of Splash Mountain taking first place.

MagicGuides compiled data for every ride from all four theme parks at Disney— Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios — to determine the winners. Three key factors were taken into account: Instagram hashtags, Tripadvisor ratings and average monthly search volume.

Log flume rides are a beloved staple of amusement parks worldwide, providing thrill-seekers with a perfect blend of excitement and water-based adventure. Among these attractions, one ride stands out, capturing the hearts of visitors like no other: Splash Mountain. With its whimsical storytelling, unforgettable characters, and immersive theming, Splash Mountain has become an icon of amusement park excellence. Let us delve into the various reasons why people continue to love Splash Mountain more than any other log flume ride in the world.

The lovable cast of characters inhabiting Splash Mountain adds an extra layer of appeal to the ride that may not be present with Princess and the Frog characters which are largely being invented for the retheme. Brer Rabbit’s mischievous escapades, Brer Fox’s relentless pursuit, and Brer Bear’s comedic antics all come to life in the original version of the timeless ride, creating an emotional connection with riders. These memorable characters evoke a range of emotions, from laughter to empathy, further enhancing the ride’s immersive experience. The vibrant personalities of the characters make Splash Mountain an enduring favorite among log flume enthusiasts.

Immersive theming is another crucial element that sets Splash Mountain apart from its competitors. As riders navigate the flume, they are enveloped in a meticulously designed world that transports them to the heart of the Deep South. The attention to detail in the scenery, animatronics, and music evokes a sense of stepping into a living storybook. From the lush landscapes to the toe-tapping tunes of “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah,” every aspect of Splash Mountain’s theming contributes to an enchanting and fully immersive experience. Can bayou magic fog replace all of this? What are we to make of an attraction that doesn’t even use the Princess and the Frog original soundtrack?

While storytelling and theming play an integral role in Splash Mountain’s popularity, the ride’s thrilling drops and splashes provide the exhilarating rush that log flume enthusiasts seek. The climax of the attraction comes with a breathtaking five-story plunge, ensuring an adrenaline-pumping finale that leaves guests both drenched and delighted. The combination of storytelling, theming, and adrenaline-fueled excitement cements Splash Mountain’s status as a top-tier log flume ride. However, all of this was based on the idea of being thrown into a briar patch according to the original mythology of the story. Now, what are we doing going down a waterfall in the bayou? There’s no such thing! Make it make sense!

For many visitors, Splash Mountain is not merely an amusement park ride; it holds a special place in their hearts as a nostalgic symbol of cherished memories. Generations of families have experienced the joy and wonder of Splash Mountain together, creating lasting bonds and unforgettable moments. The ride’s timeless appeal has resulted in a sense of nostalgia and sentimentality, drawing people back to relive the magic time and time again. Unfortunately, that is now gone.
