DC Studios CEO James Gunn recently revealed that The Bride is “the lead character in a lot of ways” for the DC Universe’s upcoming animated series Creature Commandos.

The animated series was announced as part of Gunn’s DC Universe slate back in January of last year.
He said at the time, “Creature Commandos is an animated series. I’ve written all the episodes. It’s something we’re going to do that’s a little bit different at DC, is we’re going to have characters move into animation, out of animation usually having the same character play their voice as who plays them in live action.”

In April it was revealed the cast included Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sean Gunn as Weasel and G.I. Robot, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, and Sean Agee as John Economos.
Now, Gunn shared that Varma’s The Bride is seemingly the lead character.
He shared to Threads as reported by ComicBookMovie.com, “The Bride is something special, she’s the lead character in a lot of ways, but I love them all.”

In the original comics, The Bride was not part of the Creature Commandos.
The team debuted in Weird War Tales #93 back in 1980. It consisted of Lt. Matthew Shrieve, Elliot “Lucky” Taylor as Patchwork, Vincent Velcro, Warren Griffith aka Wolfpack, and Myrra Rhodes aka Medusa.

It’s unclear when the series will arrive to Max. The animation studio Bobbypills, who has been working on the series, claimed it would not arrive until 2025.
Bobbypills’ Research and Development Supervisor Yannick Castaing said, ““We are working on Creature Commandos with Warner Bros. directed by James Gunn, the big guy. Balak and Erika as supervisors. It is seven 22 minute [episodes], but we’ll have to wait until 2025 to see that on screen.”
He added, “It’s a very high [inaudible] quality. You can see that on screen. This is the design, the character design, it’s ambitious [one] would say.”

However, James Gunn recently claimed the series would arrive sometime in late 2024.

As for what the animated series will be about, The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit detailed in January of last year, “Originally a team of classic monsters assembled to fight Nazis, this is a modern take on the concept.”
No other plot details have been revealed about the show.
