Bob Hamstead reported on X, “@MetroUK & @prideukorg have deleted their entire Twitter profiles this weekend after provocative tweets simply pushed people too far. These are not the actions of a progressive political movement.”

Hamstead shared screenshots of both organization’s previous posts to the platform. Then he shared MetroUK’s post which states, “Sorry straight white men, Doctor Who has never made for you.”

As noted by Hamstead both Pride UK and Metro deleted their accounts on X.

Interestingly, while the account has been deleted, the Metro UK outlet is still posting articles under its Metro Entertainment and Metro Opinion accounts.

The article in question, written by Asyia Iftikhar, is still available to be read on the outlet’s website as well. It claims the show has always been “woke,” but “there is still a long way to go to make Doctor Who diverse – both in front and behind the camera.”

Ironically, Iftikhar does not discuss any Doctor Who before the appearance of John Barrowman’s Jack Harkness.

Iftikhar also locked her own personal account on X.

While it’s unclear why Metro UK deleted their account X, numerous individuals on the social media website are claiming its due to the backlash the article received as well as a community note that the original post recieved.

Basil_TGMD wrote, “Who saw the @MetroUK deleting their x account over a doctor who community note? lol bye!”

David Winter wrote, “Congratulations to Asyia Iftikhar for writing an article so racist (& error filled) that one of the largest media outlets in the UK (@MetroUK) had to delete its twitter & tiktok accounts. Doctor Who has been struggling with low ratings for years, articles like this don’t help.”

GMC_Reviews posted, “After getting ratioed into oblivion MetroUK decided to delete their account. Run cowards, that ‘it wasn’t made for straight white men’ s**t isn’t working anymore.”

The original title of the Metro UK article was “Doctor Who Was Never Made For You”. That title caused the beginning of the complaint with Twitter account removed and protected. The article was subsequently updated to “Doctor Who’ Was Never Made Just For You”
