Games Workshop and Warhammer doubled down on an “inclusivity” virtue signal, but then quickly deleted it.

As reported by Chainsword40k on X, Games Workshop and Warhammer published a new rumour engine post to the company’s blog. In the body of the blog post, the company wrote, “Here we go, something undeniably Warhammer. Unambiguous, a little gothic, probably carried by someone with breathtakingly outdated views on inclusivity… it’s got the lot. We don’t even need to guess what this is, really.”

The blog post has since been updated and has deleted the virtue signal about “inclusivity.” It now simply reads, “Here we go, something undeniably Warhammer. Unambiguous, a little gothic, it’s got the lot. We don’t even need to guess what this is, really.”

Upon discovering the blog post had been quickly edited, Chainsword40k speculated that it was a rogue intern that made the post. He wrote on X, “Rogue intern confirmed. They changed it.”

This virtue signal for inclusivity comes in the wake of Games Workshop retconning the Adeptus Custodes and then gaslighting hobbyists about it not being a retcon.
An excerpt from Warhammer’s Codex: Adeptus Custodes, which released at the end of April, confirmed that the Adeptus Custodes featured a female Custodian named Calladayce Taurovalia.

The official Warhammer account on X, would confirm the retcon, but would also gaslight hobbyists claiming that there had always been female Custodians.
The account posted, “Since the first of the Ten Thousand were created, there have always been female Custodians.”

As noted by former World of Warcraft Team Lead Mark Kern the Custodes had always been male. The Rogue Trader rules in 1987 clearly describes the faction as “men.”
It states, “The Adeptus Custodes is the Emperor’s inner guard, the members of which are privileged in being permitted to serve upon the Emperor, attending to his needs, receiving and recording his directions. These men never leave Earth and only rarely leave the Imperial Palace – an endless, black hive of forbidden technology and subterranean passages delving deep within the bowels of the planet.”

Kern also shared excerpts from the 2017 and 2018 Adeptus Custodes Codexes that refers to the faction as the Brotherhood of Demigods and make it clear they were recruited from the sons of nobles.
One excerpt reads, “It is known that all Custodians begin their lives as the infant sons of the noble houses of Terra. It is a mark of incredible prestige to surrender one’s child to this most glorious of callings within the Imperium, and many notable clans amongst the Terran aristocracy have willingly given up almost entire generations of newborn sons to earn it.”
In the 7th and 8th edition of the official Custodes codexes, they are repeatedly referred to as the BROTHERHOOD of Demigods, recruited from the SONS of nobles.

Nevertheless, the company doubled down in a blog post by rewriting their own lore to ensure it does not read sons or men anymore.
The blog post states, “Potential Custodians are taken in at a very young age to better survive the rigours of their transformation – no older than late infancy – for the fundamental changes that will be wrought upon their flesh, minds and souls are tantamount to apotheosis. It is considered a great honour for those of Terran noble houses to submit a child.”

In the wake of this retcon and the subsequent gaslighting, numerous Warhammer hobbyists began canceling their Warhammer+ subscriptions to send a message to Games Workshop.

What do you make of Games Workshop and Warhammer doubling down on this virtue signal and then deleting it?

It’s more and more difficult for everyone money wise. People’s purchasing power is diminishing month by month, so we have to make choices about our spending. Thanks to Games Workshop, I can choose more easily to not spend a dime in their products.
Games Workshop is digging it’s own grave, just to please that evil executive, Jennifer Salke.
