Celebrating My Birthday at Space 220 Restaurant

While on a recent Disney trip with my family, I had the great opportunity to have my birthday dinner at a new restaurant in EPCOT.   “Space 220” is a unique dining experience that opened on September 20, 2021 near the Mission:Space attraction. We had made reservations, but mistakenly stood outside in the standby line until we realized that the restaurant entrance was to the right of the standby line.  So, after a few wasted minutes in the wrong line, we got back on course, and began our journey to the “space station” where we would be dining.

After going through the entrance, we approached a desk with friendly folks that assisted us into the “elevator” that took us virtually 220 miles above Walt Disney World where the restaurant is located in geosynchronous orbit above the earth. In true Disney fashion, this is a nice experience that sets the mood for the meal.

When we reached our destination, we entered a large dining area.  We immediately noticed a curved outer wall that depicted various space scenes. These were scenes that you would see in low earth orbit.  The room has two levels that allow guests to see the changing scenes on the outer wall.

The service was prompt and friendly.  The cost includes an appetizer, entrée, and dessert, and the menu has several different options from which to choose. I ordered the “Space Greens” for an appetizer, Bluehouse Salmon for my entree, and Carrot Cake for dessert.  The Space Greens had lettuce, cranberries, roasted pears, spiced pecans, and apple cider dressing. The salmon came with glazed carrots, king oyster mushrooms, bok choy, ginger and beurre blanc. Finally, my dessert turned out to be a wonderful carrot cake with candied walnuts and toasted pepitas.

My daughter ordered the Big Bang Burrata for her appetizer, and Roasted Free Range Chicken for the entrée.  My son in law had the Starry Calamari for his appetizer, and the 8oz Fillet Mignon for his entrée. Both had the Chocolate Cheesecake for dessert. The grandkids had Space-ghetti and Cosmic Chicken from the kid’s menu.

All of the food was great, the portions were more than adequate, and everyone, including the kid’s, thought it was a great experience! It was all delicious, but my favorite was the space greens appetizer.  The apple cider dressing on the greens really added to the zesty taste of the appetizer.  All of the tables have a good view, and you are welcome to walk around to look at the images of space.

Dinner at the Space 220 restaurant turned out to be a great way to celebrate my birthday! It was unlike anything I had ever experienced before.  I would definitely recommend dining there at least once for the cool experience and the good food!
