The good folks at Disney Food Blog are reporting that Disney has announced Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will open at some point in 2022. This means two e-ticket roller coasters will open at Disney World in the same year — a first for the resort!
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is a coaster with 360 degree horizontal swivel for each car. Unlike X-type coasters, the entire vehicle will rotate, not protruding seats. The ride is currently estimated to be far over budget and the most expensive theme park attraction ever created. With the ride opening in 2022, it will come in before Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and thus should be the beneficiary of continued interest for some time to come.
Disney has also released the first images from inside the attraction under construction. Via Instagram, here are Disney Imagineers with a brief reveal:

While the attraction is under construction, filming is also underway to have everything ready. Cast for Guardians of the Galaxy are currently donning their trademark costumes and makeup, doing their lines, and performing action scenes for the coaster. Needless to say, it’s quite a bit more than just a thrill ride.
