It’s a busy day in the news for subjects related to the Tower of Terror. While our entertainment author, Manu Lopez, is working on a story about Bob Chapek and a Tower of Terror movie, the actual Tower of Terror in Walt Disney World is currently experiencing major construction work.
Several Disney World news sites and blogs are covering the unplanned maintenance of the iconic attraction. The work is so extensive as to require that a part of the building exterior be removed so that construction crews can gain access to an area not normally in need of refurbishment. Speculation at this time is that a power supply load bearing part of the structure needs attention, thus resulting in both elevator shafts being down. Normally only one shaft goes down at a time due to the attraction being built in such a way as to hide that Tower of Terror is, in fact, two totally different drop rides in a single structural shell.
Given the removal of a part of the exterior, this work may result in several days of downtime. Usually, Tower of Terror is one of those rides that receives major attention when it goes down due to its popularity. So even though this is unplanned and significant, Disney is likely to push for a safe and fast completion.
In the meantime, Tower of Terror cast members are located near the attraction’s entrance to direct guests away from the ride.
If the source of maintenance need is better clarified, WDW Pro will be sure to cover it here on That Park Place.
