Scrooge McDuck must have had his lesson learned with the Ghost of Christmas, because Disney World just gave guests a bit of a bonus.
Consider it a small Christmas miracle from Walt Disney World. A little bit of holiday cheer is on the way as Disney Parks moves a few rides from the “pay to skip” category of attractions to being included in the Genie+ package. Does this mean that Genie+ needed more incentive, or is it Disney World’s way of being kind around Christmas? It’s hard to say, but either way it will be less expensive to skip lines on the following rides:
- Frozen Ever After (Epcot)
- Expendition Everest (Animal Kingdom)
- Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway (Hollywood Studios)
- Space Mountain (Magic Kingdom)
Given that each one of these rides had an approximate cost of about $15 per person to skip, and calculating that a family of four wanted to ride each of these one time during their trip… this is a potential savings of $240 for a family vacation. That’s not bad.

So kudos to Disney. It’s still not great that guests have to pay for FastPass when FastPass was once free. But this is a step in the right direction, even if Disney took five steps in the wrong direction months ago.
Still, we like to be positive when we can be. Merry Christmas, Disney Parks management… now let’s ring in the new year with some additional value-added features for people going to Walt Disney World. We want that same magic we felt years ago when Disney would go out of their way to offer you the very best for the money you paid.
