Today is the last day of operation for Expedition Everest at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom theme park and zoo. The attraction is closing for work on ride systems that will result in downtime all the way until mid-April. During this time, you’re likely to hear rumors that Disney is working to finally repair the giant yeti animatronic. The massive robot is supposed to be the grandiose finale for the roller coaster… a one of a kind monster that makes the ride the e-ticket it was intended to be. However, those sorts of rumors appear to not be based on any sort of truth.

The refurbishment is reportedly for the ride system. At this time, no repairs are planned for the infamous Yeti animatronic.

Unfortunately the closure will not see any improvements to the show, or a repair of the Yeti animatronic figure.

Given the months-long refurbishment, if Disney were going to work on the yeti, now would absolutely be the time to do so. The fact that they’re not planning it — unless this is a huge surprise — indicates that they almost certainly have no plans of ever fixing the yeti. It would appear that we are stuck with the disco version forever.

Should any plans change, we’ll be sure to let you know here at That Park Place. In the meantime, any rumors that the yeti is being fixed, literally ever, should be taken with a huge lump of salt.
