Very soon, Dollywood will have more classic Muppet content created by Jim Henson than Walt Disney World after the House of Mouse bulldozes Jim Henson’s legacy with the closure of MuppetVision 3D.
During a visit to Dollywood, you can stumbled upon a heartwarming discovery in the Dolly Parton Experience. On a small TV in one of the rooms you can see two nostalgic clips featuring Dolly interacting with beloved Muppets—Kermit the Frog, masterfully performed by Jim Henson, and Miss Piggy, brought to life by Frank Oz. You can see them in the player below.

Each clip, lasting only a few seconds, serves as a poignant reminder of the rich legacy Jim Henson left behind. This discovery feels especially significant in light of Disney’s recent, and arguably misguided, decision to shutter MuppetVision 3D at Walt Disney World.
MuppetVision 3D was not just another attraction; it was a celebration of the Muppets’ charm and creativity, offering fans an immersive experience that highlighted the timeless appeal of these iconic characters.

The closure of this beloved attraction marks a troubling chapter in the preservation of Henson’s legacy. As Disney pivots to relocate The Muppets to Rockin’ Roller Coaster, it’s disheartening to note that this new endeavor lacks the involvement of original Muppet performers like Jim Henson, Frank Oz, Steve Whitmire, Jerry Nelson, and Richard Hunt—whose talents were integral to the Muppets’ enduring success.
Dollywood’s inclusion of these classic Muppet clips is not just a nod to nostalgia; it signifies a deeper respect of the authentic spirit of the Muppets and holds them in high regard as to their place in pop culture history.
In a time when Disney seems more focused on commercializing and modernizing The Muppets, often at the expense of their original charm and the legacies of their creators, Dollywood stands out as a sanctuary preserving a small sliver of the true essence of these beloved characters.

The decision by Disney, under the leadership of Bob Iger and Josh D’Amaro, to close MuppetVision 3D in favor of Monsters Inc. and rebrand The Muppets’ presence within their parks raises serious concerns about the company’s dedication to honoring creative legacies.
MuppetVision was the final project Jim Henson ever worked on. It served as an everlasting testament to his vision and creativity. To see it dismantled feels like a disservice to Henson’s memory and the countless fans who hold the Muppets dear.
Moreover, Disney’s move to integrate The Muppets into a roller coaster experience strips away the interactive and heartfelt connections that made MuppetVision 3D so special. The absence of the original performers in these new ventures only exacerbates the sense of loss.
The Muppets were never just characters; they were a collaboration of talented artists whose personalities and creativity breathed life into every performance.

Dollywood’s homage to the Muppets is a fleeting tribute that shows two clips featuring genuine interactions between Dolly Parton and the classic Muppets. They come amidst a montage featuring similar interactions with icons like Johnny Carson and Burt Reynolds.
In that way, showcasing them shoulder to shoulder with such entertainment titans, Dollywood demonstrates a deeper respect for Henson’s work and ensures that the true legacy of Jim and his collaborators remains intact.
It’s more than the company that owns the Muppets IP has ever done.

This underscores the importance of preserving original performances and honoring the contributions of those who made the Muppets a cultural phenomenon.
In contrast, Disney’s actions appear to prioritize short-term attractions over long-term legacy preservation. The erasure of MuppetVision 3D symbolizes a broader trend of neglecting foundational creative works in favor of new, yet less authentic, experiences. This approach not only undermines the hard work and creativity of the original Muppet performers but also disappoints fans who cherished the genuine charm of the property.

As Dollywood continues to celebrate the authentic spirit of the Muppets, it sends a clear message.
True legacy lies in preserving the original magic and honoring those who created it.
Disney’s decision to close MuppetVision 3D and move The Muppets into a less meaningful context is a regrettable step that diminishes the rich heritage of Jim Henson and his team. It’s a move that fans and legacy-preservers alike should strongly oppose, advocating instead for a respectful and heartfelt celebration of the Muppets’ enduring legacy.

Better to be erased than mutilated. Think of what kids growing up now think of Star Wars. Would you rather be remembered for that or barely remembered at all?
Disney is a dumpster fire of filth and sadness now.
Dolly and the management team of the park should put up a bid to purchased “MuppetVision 3D” and the “Muppets” license from Disney so that the Disney World attraction can be moved or accurately replicated at Dollywood to keep it available for fans and Jim’s legacy.
