In a thrilling development for Power Rangers fans, rumors are swirling that Paramount Pictures is collaborating with IP owner Hasbro to bring a new Power Rangers movie to theaters. This potential partnership marks a significant resurgence for the beloved franchise, which appeared to be on the brink of dormancy following Hasbro’s recent strategic shifts.
Not long ago, Power Rangers was poised to expand into an interconnected franchise encompassing both film and television. Hasbro had been actively developing this expansive universe in collaboration with Netflix. However, progress stalled, and the much-anticipated reboot remained in limbo. Recent reports suggest that the franchise’s revival is back on track, reigniting excitement among fans.

Daniel Richtman reported that Paramount is in the early stages of developing a new Power Rangers movie. While specific plot details remain under wraps, insights from industry insider @Jinsakuu reveal that this project is a complete reboot, entirely separate from the previously planned Netflix endeavor. This fresh start aims to breathe new life into the series, untethered from past iterations.
Further complicating the narrative, @Jinsakuu shared that Hasbro and Paramount have been engaged in negotiations for several months, making significant strides toward a collaborative agreement. Should these discussions culminate successfully, Paramount and Skydance are expected to secure the media rights for Power Rangers, accelerating development of the new film.

There has reportedly been talk of a potential buyout of the Power Rangers property, with both Hasbro and Paramount remaining open to this possibility. However, any acquisition would hinge on reaching an agreeable price point. Currently, both entities are focused on jointly developing the film, targeting a theatrical release slated for late 2026.
This would be the fourth Power Rangers big screen effort following the original 90s classic Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie, Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, and the 2017 attempt at a reboot Saban’s Power Rangers.

As of now, there are no concrete story details available. It remains unclear whether the new movie will specifically reboot the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers series or if it will incorporate elements from other stories and teams within the expansive Power Rangers universe.
This development aligns with a recent statement from Hasbro President Olivier Dumont noting that the company had, “exciting plans for quite a few brands, including Power Rangers.”
The accelerated development of a new Power Rangers movie could show Paramount’s commitment to investing in another potentially major franchise after its recent success with Sonic The Hedgehog. Paramount has also recently seen a huge streaming surge with original series offerings by Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan.

Paramount is certainly in a better situation than Hasbro, which has undergone several changes in its approach to financing film projects. Because of this, the Power Rangers franchise has experienced a tumultuous journey since Hasbro’s acquisition.

After celebrating its 30th anniversary with the release of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury (the first Power Rangers series filmed entirely in North America without relying on Japanese Super Sentai footage) and the special Once & Always Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers reunion special, Hasbro paused further developments. That included the suspension of the popular Lightning Collection toy line and other merch releases.

If Paramount and Hasbro both were smart, they’d cancel this idea and work on shoring up whatever is still making them money while cutting costs. I don’t know what’s making either company money but I know that yet another reboot of MMPR is not going to do either any good.
A rereboot?
Yes, their last attempt was a failure due to the hyper-focus on modern audiences and showcasing the action and the rangers only in the finale.
Not sure about this, considering how disastrous previous attempts to revive the franchise for modern audiences have been in the past.
Hopefully it will be made to actually target the young male demographic. Hollywood seems to just ignore them and make everything about feminism and diversity which is why most young males don’t care about Star Wars or Superhero’s anymore. Previous plans for Power Rangers was a mostly all girl team and stories that centered around female empowerment…which we haven’t seen since 5 minute ago.
