Literally nobody was covering this other than That Park Place. While people were scrambling to find next generation consoles during the holiday season, That Park Place was reporting that a far better option than buying an Xbox Series S was an Xbox One X with an SSD. That meant that buying a last-gen Xbox was better than the more casual version of Microsoft’s next-gen options.
From one of our earlier articles:
“It may seem surprising to some, but it turns out that for all the bragging about Xbox Series S and how it is more “next generation” than the Xbox One X… that might not be necessarily true. In fact, it might be so not-true that developer Playground Games has left out a particular graphics mode on Xbox One X, perhaps to hide the fact that it outperforms Series S in some significant areas.”
Xbox One X Better Than Series S? Halo Infinite Gives More Evidence
It’s not like we ran these articles without receiving some heat. Take a look at one comment we had about this coverage:
“I have both 1x and SX . The SX has a marked improvement over 1x. In fact I cannot even play it on 1X anymore, the differences are significant. Yes the 1x is a powerful machine but the new SX is where it’s at. To say the 1x version is better than the SX version is a lie.”

Now we’re not here to say that Xbox One X is better than the Xbox Series S in every way. It’s often a mixed bag, although Xbox One X with an attached SSD is usually the better option. The issue was that people were spending hundreds of dollars when they already had a mostly better machine… they just needed to buy an SSD. That’s not to say if you could get an Xbox Series X you were making a bad purchase; we’re only making a claim about Series S versus the Xbox One X. And even if you thought the Xbox One X is slightly worse than a Series S, is that really worth families dropping hundreds of dollars and scrambling to find a new console? Probably not.
