SeaWorld Orlando is about to get a flavorful upgrade as Chick-fil-A prepares to open its doors in the park.

The beloved fast-food chain will be serving its famous chicken sandwiches, nuggets, and waffle fries to guests at the marine-themed park starting this summer via a Kiosk near the Manta attraction and Seaport Theater. The new restaurant will replace the former Captain Pete’s Island Hot Dogs and will be situated in the heart of the park, promising convenience and a crowd-pleasing menu for visitors. This addition reflects SeaWorld’s ongoing efforts to revitalize its brand and attract a broader audience.

The new Chick-fil-A at SeaWorld Orlando is expected to operate similarly to the one at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, offering popular lunch and dinner items such as chicken sandwiches, nuggets, waffle fries, and a variety of desserts and beverages like cookies, brownies, frosted lemonade, and milkshakes.

The restaurant will be open Monday through Saturday, adhering to Chick-fil-A’s tradition of closing on Sundays. Additionally, it’s anticipated that SeaWorld’s Chick-fil-A may participate in the All-Day Dining Deal at Sea World, allowing guests to redeem meals at the location every 90 minutes, as is the case at Busch Gardens.

For over a decade, SeaWorld has faced significant challenges, many of which stem from the backlash generated by the 2013 documentary Blackfish. The film criticized SeaWorld’s treatment of its killer whales, alleging unethical practices in their breeding and training. Public outcry and declining attendance forced the company to take drastic measures, including ending its orca breeding program in 2016 and phasing out theatrical killer whale shows once the current pod passes on.

Despite these changes, SeaWorld has struggled to fully recover its reputation and rebuild attendance numbers to pre-Blackfish levels.

In an effort to diversify its offerings, SeaWorld has increasingly turned to outside intellectual properties. One of the most notable partnerships is with Sesame Street, which has its own dedicated area in the park.

The Sesame Street Land at SeaWorld Orlando features kid-friendly rides, character meet-and-greets, and themed attractions that provide a wholesome and educational experience for families. The land has been a hit with younger audiences and their parents, adding much-needed variety to SeaWorld’s portfolio.

Now, the addition of Chick-fil-A signals another strategic move to appeal to mainstream audiences. Known for its high-quality food and exceptional service, Chick-fil-A is a household name with a loyal fan base. Its presence in SeaWorld may help to draw in guests who see the restaurant as a reliable dining option during their visit.

While SeaWorld continues to navigate the murky waters of public perception, partnerships with beloved brands like Sesame Street and Chick-fil-A could help steer the park toward smoother seas. Whether this strategy will be enough to reverse years of declining goodwill remains to be seen.

I had to eat lunch at the Med Center the other day and saw huge pod of potential replacements for the present orca. They were all still black and white. However, they were all much more colorful on their heads than the traditional killer whales. Still as unexpectedly dangerous in a snap.
