“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” Tops “Let It Go”

My granddaughter is four years old and her favorite song is “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from the Disney movie Encanto. In fact, she loves all the songs from Encanto as well as the movie itself.  She has watched it many times.  But she can sing this particular song over and over. I like how happy this song makes her. We have a little game we play as we sing it, where we substitute other names for Bruno. So, we also don’t talk about Dad, Mom, cats, fish… well you get the idea. She rolls with laughter as we make each substitution.  Laughter is contagious you know, and just makes you feel better!

Apparently, many other people are also enjoying this catchy tune. Billboard announced this week that the song has become the highest chart-topping song from a Disney Animation film in 26 years. It is currently No. 4. on the Billboard Hot 100. This is a little surprising to me since it isn’t your typical Disney movie song.  But what do I know? My granddaughter recognized that it was a hit right from the beginning!  The last time a Disney song from an animated film reached that high was from the film Frozen. The song, “Let It Go,” hit No. 5 in 2014. I remember taking my great-nieces to see a sing along version of Frozen and how much fun they had. But something about “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” is definitely catching on and causing this song to climb the charts.  If my granddaughter is any type of judge, it will make it to #1!

In addition, the Encanto soundtrack has reached the top spot on Apple music and iTunes. Disney must give credit to Lin-Manuel Miranda who is responsible for the soundtrack. Lin-Manuel Miranda is the Tony Award winning artist behind Hamilton and has previously worked with Disney on the movies Moana and Mary Poppins Returns. Both of these movies are among my favorites.

It’s about time that Disney once again has a catchy family friendly song at the top of the charts. If you haven’t seen Encanto and heard what is sure to become another classic Disney song, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”, I highly recommend it. I know I am looking forward to spending more time listening to the classic Disney songs as well as new songs yet to come.
