Severus Snape is one of the most vividly outlined characters in Harry Potter, described across multiple books as a pale-skinned man with long, greasy black hair and a hooked nose.
In the sixth book, Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince, Rowling specifically refers to Snape’s pigmentation.

This show has just lost 80% of its core audience with this DEI / virtue-signalling decision. Don’t believe me? look at what happened to Dr Who. And Captain African American. Expect terrible reviews by fans, and ratioed trailers, etc.
I’m not so sure. Most of the Potter fans tend to be younger, and lean liberal. Despite how much money it’s made, the books are actually trash, and at the end of the day none of it is any better than, say, Power Rangers or Pokemon. It’s just a way to get kids to whine to their parents about “buy me that”.
Dr Who is on another level. Everything about the last doc and a 100 of tiny details is designed to show those bigots, those old fans who liked show when it was not diverse and promoting toxic masculinity.
lately, I notice less and less nice comments about swapped characters or even black characters on YT and other platforms. I think it is working. Wokies destroyed racism. Black people are one step away from becoming included, respected, and given everything they always deserved.
But without sarcasm, their work is truly showing, in my opinion.

It’s particularly offensive because it’s telling black people they can’t like characters that aren’t black. And as a black guy myself it’s beyond insulting to my intelligence.
This contradicts the character’s concept itself, since Snape was represented marginalized edgy boys, whom others find too strange and gloomy. Plus, this potentially makes Harry Potter’s father a racist, because he mocked a marginalized black guy at school. Now you obviously cannot say that skin color does not has meaning for the character at this stage.
Warner Bros is not gonna get the return on investment in Harry Potter outside of merch that they are hoping for. It’s dead like everything else. They’re gonna be in REAL trouble by 2030 at this rate.
