Earlier reports suggesting Matt Reeves was no longer director for The Batman: Part 2 have now been officially corrected, following a direct response from DC Studios co-head James Gunn.
After a listing in Production Weekly omitted Reeves’ name as director—listing him only as the screenwriter—speculation ran wild that Reeves had stepped away from the project entirely. The omission reignited concerns due to previous delays and ongoing rumors regarding Reeves’ personal circumstances.
However, those rumors were put to rest this week.
What Did James Gunn Say About The Batman: Part 2?
In a post on Threads, a fan asked Gunn directly: “Is Matt Reeves still directing The Batman Part II?”
Gunn replied simply:
“Yes. Huh?”

The brief but definitive statement served as confirmation that Reeves remains fully attached to the film as both writer and director.
This isn’t the first time Gunn has pushed back on speculation about the film. Back in November 2024, he addressed false rumors about the film being canceled altogether, stating:
“Like why would you even believe a rando on social networking?” he asked. “Of course not. If it was canceled it would be canceled. Who has time for charades? I’ve been one of Matt’s biggest cheerleaders for years – since Cloverfield and the Apes’ movies. We are eagerly awaiting his script.”
Where the Confusion Started
The confusion originated from a recent edition of Production Weekly, which included an updated listing for The Batman: Part 2.

While the listing noted a planned March 2026 shoot in London and reaffirmed the film’s October 1, 2027 release date, it only credited Reeves as the writer, not the director. This detail—combined with past delays and personal speculation—led to a wave of online discussion about his potential departure from the director’s chair.
The Batman: Part 2 Is Moving Forward With Matt Reeves as Director
With Gunn’s confirmation, it’s now clear that The Batman: Part 2 is still moving forward under Reeves’ direction. According to Warner Bros. executives Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, the filmmaker is currently finishing the script, and all core cast members—including Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrell, and Andy Serkis—are expected to return.

The sequel remains part of DC’s Elseworlds banner, separate from the continuity being developed under Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe slate.
Editor’s Note: A previous article on That Park Place referenced Production Weekly’s listing, which did not credit Reeves as director. We now update this story in light of James Gunn’s confirmation and have updated our initial report with this new information.
