Veteran waiting staff from other restaurants at Walt Disney World Resort are reportedly not happy with the idea of working at the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser hotel. There are coveted serving jobs at Disney World, including Chef Mickey’s, The Crystal Palace, Boma, Ohana, and more… but those expert servers who kill it in tips at those restaurants are reticent about going to the Crown of Corellia Dining Room. The reason: guests have already paid in full for most of the experience, so there’s no guarantee that they’ll even tip at all for dining.
Now that’s an oversight.
First covered on WDWNT (we recommend reading the entire article), author Katie Francis had this to say:
“Doubts are being cast on whether the gratuities will be comparable with their current locations. Waitstaff often rely on gratuities to make up the difference for the reduced wages.”
Simultaneously, it seems that Disney is still looking to hire actors for the soon-launching Star Wars larping adventure. The behind-the-scenes issues are beginning to get out there with channels like Drunk 3PO covering the issue, which can’t be good for Disney’s efforts:
And, of course, there’s the issue for Disney that the next episode of The Book of Boba Fett could have a long-lasting effect (either positive or negative) for the interest in Star Wars for perhaps a decade.
For all the latest on the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser, including coverage of its “maiden voyages”, keep reading That Park Place. And, as always, let us know your thoughts in the comment section. We really do read them.
