Disney has released updated concept art for the upcoming Cars Land expansion replacing Frontierland’s Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island—but something’s missing. Actually, two somethings.

The most obvious omission? The much-publicized ATVs, which were originally positioned as part of the land’s flagship attraction. Dubbed a “thrilling rally race” experience, the ride was featured prominently in the August 2024 announcement and even had behind-the-scenes test footage shared by Disney to drum up hype.

But in the newest “fun map” released by the company, the signature ATVs are nowhere to be seen—at least not in a recognizable form.
Even Disney Imagineering veteran Eddie Soto noticed the absence. In a post on X, the former Senior Vice President of Concept Design for Disney Imagineering was quick to point this out.
While these “fun maps” are designed to be “specifically vague”, I’m surprised to see that the map omits the “ATV ride experience” that they’re so excited about! Why don’t we see cartoon ATVs ripping into those trails? You don’t see the “race day” flags or any of that. Hmmm.… pic.twitter.com/ZrqwBo5Zhu

“While these ‘fun maps’ are designed to be ‘specifically vague,’ I’m surprised to see that the map omits the ‘ATV ride experience’ that they’re so excited about,” he said. “Why don’t we see cartoon ATVs ripping into those trails? You don’t see the ‘race day’ flags or any of that. Hmmm. Nice to see what appears to be more water. It’s evolving.”
Soto’s observation echoes confusion among fans and industry insiders alike. The previous iteration of concept art appeared to show rugged terrain and hints of track features suggestive of the ATV ride, but the newest rendering paints a cleaner, more ambiguous landscape.

Even more puzzling is a second ride that Disney itself confirmed back in 2024: a “family fun” attraction meant for younger visitors and guests without height restrictions. But not only does this ride still have no name, it’s also not shown in the updated map.
Instead, media outlets were told during a preview that the attraction will be located near the Ranger Headquarters building, which is depicted in the new artwork. Yet the only visible structure in that area is a patch of grass surrounded by fencing.
So far, Disney has offered no explanation for the absence of both rides in their updated visuals. Whether the “fun map” is simply holding back key visuals to keep surprises under wraps or whether plans are actively changing is unknown.

The secrecy surrounding the “family fun” ride raises questions of its own. With limited space in the area designated for the second attraction, many fans have speculated it could be a smaller-scale spinner ride, or perhaps something akin to Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters from Disney California Adventure. That’s a compact ride known for maximizing entertainment value in a tight footprint.
Still, the elephant (or perhaps the engine) in the room is the lack of any clear indication that the high-octane ATV ride is still part of the project. Given how heavily Disney featured it last year, its disappearance from concept art is notable.

Plans for the Cars Land expansion at Magic Kingdom have clearly evolved since they were first announced. The latest map may be “vague by design,” as Soto suggests, but even vague maps usually include something to tease major attractions. The lack of any visual nod to either ride has only fueled more questions about what guests can actually expect when construction wraps.
Until Disney breaks the silence, speculation will continue to accelerate.
