A constellation of celebrities descended upon Venice for the wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez—a $50 million, three-day extravaganza. The wedding was clearly a source of some frustration for a collective of progressive celebrities who slammed attendees, criticized the event, and and railed against the Amazon billionaire and his new bride.
Rosie O’Donnell, an American expatriate living in Ireland, took to Instagram and criticized the presence of Oprah Winfrey at the event writing, “Is Oprah friends with Jeff Bezos? Really? How is that possible? He treats his employees with disdain. By any metric he is not a nice man.”

Rosie’s comments cast Oprah’s attendance at Jeff Bezos’ wedding as supposed approval of his behaviors in business, essentially playing the guilt-by-association game. Oprah was also famously photographed with Harvey Weinstein and in an appearance on the Goop podcast, described her relationship with him as friendly; despite saying she saw him as a bully.
Yet, this reporter couldn’t find a single instance where O’Donnell was critical of that relationship in her social media accounts.

Rosie continued with a gender-based ad hominem attack on the bride, saying, “And his fake fem bot wife who looks like that… Why would he choose her after the salt of the earth Mackenzie [Scott]? Sold his soul is what it looks like from here. The devil is smiling at all his conquests.”
This comment comes after Rosie’s longstanding track record of speaking out against appearance-based attacks and body shaming, which she previously condemned as conduct that’s personally and socially harmful. This rhetoric most notably came in her criticism of Donald Trump following his comments to Megyn Kelly during a 2015 presidential debate coupled with his longstanding jokes at O’Donnell’s expense.

The hero of the day, according to many of the Hollywood elite who didn’t receive a save the date appeared to be Bezos’s ex-wife Mackenzie Scott.
Celebrities like Mia Farrow, Rosanna Arquette, and Olivia Munn praised Scott’s generosity—highlighting her billions in charitable giving in stark contrast to the opulence on display in Venice. Scott, for her part, has stayed largely out of the spotlight since the divorce and has not made public comment on the wedding.
Charlize Theron, a South African expatriate living in America, was hosting her annual charity event for the Africa Outreach Project at the same time as the wedding. She told her attendees, “I think we might be the only people who did not get an invite to the Bezos wedding. But that’s OK because they suck and we’re cool.”
Her initial comments seemed like a light crowd-pleasing dig… but she continued. Speaking on the state of the world, her belief that things are “going backward” and the erasure of rights she concluded with, “Yeah, f–k them.”

There’s no word yet on how her event impacted the Africa Outreach Project’s mission. However, it’s worth noting that a charity gala is often considered successful even when operating at a loss, while the Bezos wedding verifiably injected $50 million into the local economy.
Katie Couric, once a vocal critic of appearance-based scrutiny, took to Instagram to comment on Sánchez’s wedding look, stating, “Welcome to the eighties — when big hair and conspicuous consumption ruled. Apparently tacky is back.”
The quip came under a now-deleted post from Jack Schlossberg (grandson of Robert F. Kennedy, Sr.), who replied, “Let’s bring back scrunchies.”

In her memoir, Going There, Couric had previously discussed how much more harshly women are judged for their looks than men are. But that was before she thought up a snarky thing to say about the Bezos wedding.
As for the wedding cost?
To bring the astronomical spending for this wedding down into the realm of a middle-class American family, Bezos’ reported net worth is $237 billion, the $50 million splurge equates to a median middle-class family with a net worth just under $200,000 spending about $50 on a wedding.

So Rosie and other progs are just butthurt they didn’t get invited. Intended or not, this article is a “feel good” one because it makes me feel good to laugh at these has-beens having meltdowns and trying to get attention.
I am glad Bezos, for all of his faults, was able to create a really special day for himself, his new wife, and the guests. I thought she looked beautiful in her wedding dress and people are just attacking her out of cattiness and jealousy.
It will be a day most of them will look back with fondly and will tell stories about till their last days. “Did I tell you about that time I was invite to Jeffy’s wedding?” “Yes, grandpa, not again please!”
Was this an instance of conspicuous overconsumption? I dunno, like the article says, for Bezos it is a drop in the bucket. Not even that.. like a fraction of a drop.
