Disneyland Park has announced that a virtual queue will be in place for its newest attraction, Walt Disney – A Magical Life, when it opens on July 17, 2025. The experience, which includes a highly controversial animatronic Walt Disney will be located in the Opera House on Main Street, U.S.A.. It will explore the life and legacy of Walt Disney through immersive storytelling, rare historical artifacts, and interactive exhibits, along with the aforementioned animatronic figure.

The opening date will celebrate Disneyland’s 70th anniversary.

The attraction, located in the same building that previously housed Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, is designed to offer a detailed, personal look at Walt Disney’s creative journey. Though specific features of the exhibit have not been officially detailed, Disney has indicated that it will include rarely seen photographs, personal items, and multimedia displays that tell the story of Walt Disney’s influence on entertainment and culture.

Virtual Queues

To manage expected crowds and supposedly maintain a smoother guest experience, Disneyland will bring back its deeply unpopular virtual queue (VQ) system. This system will allow guests to reserve access to the attraction through the official Disneyland app. There will be two daily opportunities to join the queue, helping to distribute demand throughout the day.

The first virtual queue window will open at 7 a.m. each day. Guests do not need to be inside the park to request access during this time. However, they must have valid admission and a theme park reservation for Disneyland Park. The second opportunity will occur at 12 p.m., and guests must be inside Disneyland Park to participate. This approach is similar to previous virtual queues used for attractions such as Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

Once a guest joins the virtual queue, they will receive a boarding group and an estimated return time. The app will send notifications when it is time to enter the experience. Joining a virtual queue does not guarantee entry, as availability may be limited and subject to demand.

Standby access will not be offered at launch. The only way to experience Walt Disney – A Magical Life during its initial opening period will be through the virtual queue system. Disney has not yet announced how long the virtual queue will be required or if a standby line may be introduced later.

The use of virtual queues has become a common crowd management tool for Disney theme parks in recent years, much to the frustration of many guests. They help reduce physical wait times and allow guests to enjoy other parts of the park while waiting for their turn, but they also require a lot of luck and lead to a ton of frustration when guests aren’t able to access a new attraction because their internet connection was too slow.

Many believed Disney was done with the virtual queue system due to a swell of guest complaints during rollouts for attractions like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Tron Lightcycle Run, and more. The new Test Track, opening in EPCOT this month, will not use the system, becoming the first major Disney attraction to not use a VQ in many years.

However, it seems as though Disney isn’t done with virtual queues just yet.

How to See the New Attraction

Guests planning to visit Disneyland Park after July 17th are encouraged to download the latest version of the Disneyland app and ensure that their park tickets and reservations are linked. Joining the virtual queue is free, but access is not guaranteed due to limited capacity. Disney recommends checking the app frequently for updates and availability.

More information about the attraction and its operation may be released as the opening date approaches. For now, the virtual queue system remains the only method of accessing Walt Disney – A Magical Life on opening day and for the foreseeable future.
