In this era of the Internet, a single Instagram follow can send fandoms into overdrive. That’s exactly what happened when DC Studios co-head James Gunn followed Andor actress Adria Arjona on Instagram.
Within hours, speculation exploded as to whether James Gunn had chosen Arjona as the new Wonder Woman.
Speculation vs. Facts
Fans eager for news about DC’s rebooted cinematic universe saw the move as a possible casting clue. After all, Gunn has been teasing big changes, and fresh faces, across iconic roles like Superman, Batman, and of course, Wonder Woman. But in a recent interview with Extra, James Gunn made it clear that this was not a casting breadcrumb.

“I follow Adria on Instagram, but everybody came out [and thought], ‘He just followed her, that means she’s Wonder Woman,’” Gunn remarked, adding, “She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way…. But she was in a movie that I made seven years ago… We’ve been friends and have known each other since that time. I followed her then, I didn’t just follow her. People just notice these things all the time.”

Gunn was referring to The Belko Experiment (2016), a film he produced in which Arjona had a supporting role.
Their professional connection dates back nearly a decade, and the follow appears to be less of a casting teaser and more of a longstanding friendship. Still, his offhand remark that Arjona “would be a great Wonder Woman” only added fuel to the fire, especially given her rising profile thanks to projects like Hit Man and Andor.
What’s Actually Happening with Wonder Woman?
The future of Wonder Woman in the DC Universe is still very much in development. In an earlier Entertainment Weekly exclusive published on June 10, 2025, James Gunn confirmed that a new Wonder Woman film is in active development and currently being written.

“Wonder Woman’s a separate thing” from the HBO Max prequel series Paradise Lost, which he described as “slow moving, but it’s moving.”
“We’re working on Wonder Woman,” Gunn said. “Wonder Woman’s being written right now.”
That lines up with comments from Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, who called Superman, Batman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman “crucial characters” to the new franchise strategy. Gunn agreed with that sentiment, saying that two of those characters are locked in and “we’re dealing with the other two.”
A New Era Still Being Built
Gal Gadot, who portrayed Diana Prince in the previous DC film era, is no longer attached. Her third solo outing under director Patty Jenkins was scrapped in 2022 as part of the broader reboot. Jenkins later commented that DC was “buried in changes” and that there was “nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time.”

Gunn and co-head Peter Safran were brought in to chart a new continuity, beginning with Superman and continuing with titles like Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Wonder Woman remains a top priority, but not one the lead actress, director and creative team are all yet to be announced.

So while Adria Arjona certainly looks the part, and Gunn clearly admires her, there’s no indication she’s actually been cast. For now, it’s just another case of fans chasing shadows in the algorithm.

The ONLY Wonder Woman is Lynda Carter. However, even that fool can’t keep her mouth shut with age. She seems to have taken a page out of the bob deniro/ luke skywalker playbook.
But by all means, keep piling on the feminist failures.
Why doesn’t marvel make a squirrel girl movie?
