Universal Orlando Resort’s latest theme park, Epic Universe, is projected to generate approximately $2 billion for the Central Florida economy during its first year of operation. This comes from a study led by economist Dr. Sean Snaith from the University of Central Florida’s Institute for Economic Forecasting.

This projection includes increased consumer spending, tax revenue, job creation, and support for businesses throughout the Central Florida region. The park is part of Universal Destinations & Experiences, a division of NBCUniversal, which is owned by Comcast Corporation.
Scope of the Development and Financial Reach
Epic Universe spans roughly 750 acres, making it Universal’s largest U.S.-based theme park development to date. The project includes multiple themed lands, a new on-site hotel, entertainment venues, and transportation infrastructure. Comcast described it as the company’s largest single investment ever made in Florida.

In total, Universal’s investment and construction activities tied to Epic Universe are estimated to have generated $11 billion in economic output across the United States. This figure includes direct spending on construction, as well as indirect effects such as job creation and supply chain expenditures.
Employment Generation During and After Construction
The construction phase alone created an estimated 65,000 jobs nationwide, including roles in engineering, architecture, skilled trades, and related services. According to NBCUniversal’s economic disclosures, the operational phase will support more than 17,500 jobs across the country, with a large share located in Florida.

Universal Orlando’s theme park division supported approximately 94,000 jobs nationwide in 2023. With the opening of Epic Universe, that number is expected to rise significantly due to increased operational demands and regional tourism growth.
Tax Revenues and Infrastructure Improvements
The park is projected to generate approximately $386 million in state and local tax revenue during its first year. This total includes $120 million in property taxes and $500 million in sales tax revenues. Some of these estimates appear to overlap or use different methodologies, so they are typically not summed directly in public reports.

In addition to tax contributions, Epic Universe has spurred significant public infrastructure investment. Around $230 million is allocated for roadway enhancements, utilities, and transportation improvements. This includes the $315 million Kirkman Road extension, which connects the park to existing tourist corridors.
Tourist development taxes are also expected to rise. The county anticipates approximately $13 million in new tourist development tax revenue during the park’s first year, based on projected visitation and hotel occupancy.
Ripple Effects Across Local Industries
Epic Universe’s opening is expected to boost regional sectors beyond tourism. Local hospitality businesses—including hotels, restaurants, and retail—are already hiring in anticipation of sustained increases in visitor traffic. Rideshare drivers, event suppliers, and logistics companies are also likely to benefit from the rise in activity throughout Orange County and surrounding areas.

According to regional officials, the park could also contribute to long-term improvements in housing development and workforce attraction. Some municipalities are planning zoning adjustments and transportation expansions to prepare for population growth resulting from employment gains in tourism and service sectors.
