Chapek Confirms WDW Pro’s Report on the Mary Poppins Attraction

Almost exactly one month ago, our pseudonymed writer here at That Park Place (WDW Pro) was discussing the Mary Poppins attraction and expansion at Epcot. The addition was believed to have been totally scrapped as a result of budget-changes from the pandemic. But WDW Pro was asserting that the attraction had not been thrown away as nearly everyone had believed. Instead, Disney had worked too hard to get a particular design approved from the estate of the Mary Poppins author.

The Mary Poppins attraction is one of those items, but we’re fortunate in that the attraction was approved by the estate of PL Travers. For that reason, there’s some investment from Disney in this concept and I think it’s fair to be hopeful that it will return. After all, trying to get a new concept approved would be quite the hassle, if it is even possible at all.

The question we’re left with is whether or not Disney will be dusting off these concepts and arriving at a solution (or a new one) when they get ready to introduce the attraction at some point in the future. It would seem to me to be a question of “when” not “if”, but that’s just me analyzing the situation.

The Mary Poppins Ride That Could Have Been

Now, it seems that conclusion by WDW Pro is absolutely true. CEO Bob Chapek has confirmed this information in the 2022 Shareholder Meeting, as reported by WDW Magic.

In response to a question at the 2022 Shareholder Meeting, Chapek said that the project is in a holding pattern currently, but looks forward to refunding the Mary Poppins ride in the future.

Yet again, WDW Pro nails a Disney World prediction. Was it insider information or a really good hunch? Let us know in the comments below, and keep checking out That Park Place for all the news and rumors that should be fun… often exclusively and before anyone else.
