Stephen Colbert won at the Emmys for “Outstanding Talk Series” for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Variety posted his reception of the trophy on X.

Upon receiving his award at the Emmys, Colbert was quoted stating, “Sometimes you only truly know how much you love something when you get a sense that you might be losing it. Ten years later, in September of 2025, my friends, I have never loved my country more desperately. God bless America. Stay strong, be brave, and if the elevator tries to bring you down, go crazy and punch a higher floor!”

Apparently he attempted to quote the Prince song Let’s Go Crazy. Not only did he misquote the lyrics, but he let everyone know that over the next year he most certainly plans to “go crazy.” Crazy as he’s already been, this year could be one wild ride: the kind that induces motion sickness.

After A Decade Long Award Drought, The Late Show Scores Twice

Interestingly enough, this is now the second award the show has received in as many weeks, the first being the the Creative Arts Emmy for outstanding direction, awarded to the shows director, Jim Hoskinson. Our own Marvin Montanaro posted a story on this win last week.

Colbert Wins First Late Show Emmy After Being Cancelled: Is This Recognition or a Hollywood Political Statement?

So, the Late Show with Stephen Colbert goes completely unrecognized by the Emmy’s since its 2015 inception on September 8, 2015. And now, only after the cancelation of the show, and even the entirety of the The Late Show with… series, does this property finally receive recognition?

Does that timing seem a little bit more than just suspicious?

Two Meritorious Emmys, Or A Political Message From Hollywood?

It’s of note that up until last week, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert had never received an Emmy.

The show has gone virtually unrecognized since it first aired in 2015, with the single exception to that being a Peabody Award in 2021 for “entertainment.”

Perhaps, that wouldn’t stand out if it weren’t for his predecessor, David Letterman, having amassed a total of nine Emmy wins during his 22 year tenure on the same show and in the same time slot.

When Letterman hosted the late show, he received a grand total of 72 Emmy nominations. So where has the recognition for Colbert been all of these years? Did the show go nine years as a dud, then all of a sudden catch fire from 2024 to 2025? Is the television audience now clamoring to view this late night phenomenon? Are advertisers flocking to throw money hand over fist to CBS to now support this “award winning” show?

Or is perhaps something other than pure merit at play now? Perhaps political punditry plays a part as Hollywood hacks hand out empty accolades?

Fact Over Fiction – The Late Show Is A Loser

Fact: reports suggest that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was losing CBS upwards of $40-50 million dollars per year.

That’s a lot of cabbage to waste while paying Colbert a reported $15 Million annually.

While the show maintained “high overall ratings” (compared to other television shows of that genre in that timeslot) a significant drop in the younger, advertiser-friendly demographic and the substantial cost of production contributed to these losses, which ultimately led to its cancellation.

Bottom line, Stephen Colbert’s Late Show is a loser. He simply doesn’t have the prowess of his predecessor, and he is more laughed at, than laughed with. His anti Trump rhetoric has been at the forefront of every broadcast, and many (falsely) place blame on President Trump for the cancelation of The Late Show, which when the facts are present, is simply not the case.

Did Stephen Colbert deserve his win at the Emmys? Did you watch and think he was funny or entertaining? Was his political rhetoric repulsive enough to keep you away? Sound off and let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Mad Lemming

I said it before and I’ll say it again: this is entirely political stunting. His show is a giant money sink, he’s increasingly unpopular among audiences, and those are why he got the axe. Supporting him is not going to stop other “late night shows” from also being canceled or audiences tuning out of other productions so laden with TDS they’re practically biohazards.

Not to mention what ideologues like him caused with Charlie Kirk’s assassination by a Queer Resistance terrorist. He’s a hateful, partisan hack and a total sellout to Big Pharma to boot. Never let him or others forget his “Vax-Scene” skits. For all the damage he and others like him have caused, CBS is being overly merciful in letting him stay on the air until May ’26.

He can thank the Covid song and dance for this one. It was earthshattering, in its own way. So earthshattering it took the committee years to recognize its genius.

They need an Emmy for “Most embarrassing kowtowing to the liberal media of a late night host” but the competition is fierce! Kimmel or Colbert or Meyers, Kimmel or Colbert or Meyers? Fallon needs to up his liberal game to be considered, I mean, he once had TRUMP on his show, like 10 or 11 years ago and that tells us all we need to know!
