For over a week, ABC’s The View maintained radio silence on the Jimmy Kimmel controversy. That silence broke this Monday — the very same day ABC was set to announce that Kimmel would be returning to the air. Coincidence? Or did the network only allow its most outspoken daytime panel to weigh in once the storm had passed behind closed doors?

Was this actually a ploy by Disney and ABC to make the View appear as though it was operating without restrictions while knowing full well that the company would come out looking like “the good guys” by the end of the day?
The Defiant Line: “No One Silences Us”
On Monday’s broadcast, Whoopi Goldberg wasted no time defending the show’s independence. Looking straight into the camera, she declared: “No one silences us.” The panel then launched into a discussion of free speech, censorship, and the broader implications of Kimmel’s suspension.

The moment was clearly intended as a bold stand — a declaration that The View would not be muzzled by critics, regulators, or even corporate higher-ups. Yet the obvious problem with that claim is that for the previous two episodes, the panel had indeed remained silent on the issue.
Viewers noticed. Commentators noticed. For a show that thrives on weighing in loudly and quickly, the absence of commentary on Kimmel when the entire entertainment world was talking about it stuck out like a sore thumb.
Why the Silence?
The hosts offered a few explanations for their delay.
- One of last week’s episodes was pre-taped, they said, which limited their ability to address breaking news.
- They also claimed they wanted to give Kimmel himself the first chance to respond before offering their own take.
But when has The View ever waited to give someone else the chance to respond to a story before offering their own take? When have Whoopi, Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar, and the crew ever resisted such a tantalizing political bone to chew on?
Never. Literally never.

By the time The View spoke up, ABC was reportedly preparing to announce Kimmel’s reinstatement later that same day. If ABC already knew internally that the late-night host was coming back, would it be outside the realm of possibility that the daytime panel was told to hold off until that decision was ready for public release?
It’s speculation — but the timing raises the question.
The Corporate Angle
This wouldn’t be the first time a network tried to control its own messaging in a media firestorm. The Kimmel controversy drew in not only furious political debate but also scrutiny from the FCC and questions about affiliate stations. ABC and Disney faced an unusual level of external pressure, and no network wants two of its flagship shows (Kimmel and The View) creating fresh headlines at the same time.

Allowing The View to stay silent on Kimmel for a few days may have been a calculated move: contain the damage, finalize a decision on Kimmel, then let the daytime hosts rally behind a narrative of free speech and resilience once the outcome was in sight and Disney could come out the other side looking like a hero to the people.
The Optics Problem
Here’s the catch: if The View wanted to appear defiant, the delayed commentary undercuts that message. Claiming “no one silences us” after a week of silence comes across as defensive rather than bold. It leaves the impression — fair or not — that someone did silence them, at least temporarily, until the corporate green light flashed.

Also The View has been silenced many times. Host Sunny Hostin has had to read numerous legal disclaimers after making incendiary remarks at the insistence of management, walking back statements and providing legal clarity so as not to open ABC up to potentially horrific lawsuits.
The Bottom Line
The View finally spoke about Jimmy Kimmel, but the timing suggests their defiance was carefully managed by Disney. Whether it was caution, convenience, or corporate directive, their silence lasted until the moment ABC had already decided Kimmel would be back on the air.

The claim that “no one silences us” may sound good in a Monday monologue — but to many viewers, it rings hollow when the silence stretched across the previous week.

After ABC shows that you can lie on the air and keep your show, no surprise that the View is elated.
They all love to cry fascism but they’re still alive and free to spew their hate so, tell me, where’s the fascism?
The fascism has always been on their side. The more they abuse the word, the more apparent it becomes.
Did you know that Whoopi Goldberg named herself because she farted and also wanted a Jewish sounding name? Her name means gassy jew. I’m dead serious.
I did. I know her “history”. I’m fairly certain the only reason she’s still around is because of Ted Danson.
Kimmel lied on air in order to slander the right, and yet idiots like Whoopi still think they’re the good guys for standing by him.
