The Wolverine game trailer was a highlight at the latest Sony State of Play, but concerns over the influence of Sweet Baby Inc. continue to hang over this Marvel game.
The long-awaited Wolverine trailer has finally slashed its way online, giving PlayStation 5 owners their first real look at Insomniac’s upcoming Marvel project. The footage was everything fans hoped for—brutal, bloody, and packed with cinematic flair. Wolverine’s claws cut through henchmen, Omega Red made a menacing appearance, and even Mystique showed up in a surprise role.
But while many are celebrating the action and tone of the game, controversy has already struck in a way that has nothing to do with gameplay mechanics. It has everything to do with Sweet Baby Inc.
The Trailer: Brutal and Bloody
Insomniac has always been known for fluid, high-energy combat—something their Spider-Man franchise perfected. But with Wolverine, the developers are taking a darker approach. Fans immediately praised the bone-crunching, bloody animations that made Logan feel as savage as his comic counterpart.

Omega Red’s inclusion as a villain delighted X-Men enthusiasts, while Mystique’s surprise appearance sparked another type of discussion. Many fans on social media criticized her design, saying it followed a familiar AAA gaming trend of making iconic female characters look less conventionally attractive.

That discourse may be central to the larger storm brewing concerning Wolverine and Sweet Baby Inc.
Sweet Baby Inc. Shadow Looms over Wolverine
Sweet Baby Inc. (SBI), the controversial narrative consulting group, has become infamous in recent years after its involvement with titles like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Spider-Man 2. Gamers have accused SBI of prioritizing identity-driven storylines over gameplay and immersion—claims that sparked boycotts across multiple genres.

SBI had previously confirmed that it had been working with Insomniac on Wolverine. What isn’t clear is whether their role has been reduced, removed, or if the group remains deeply embedded in the project. That uncertainty has caused a wave of unease across gaming forums.

As That Park Place previously reported, Insomniac developers have shown loyalty and admiration toward SBI in the past, which makes many fans skeptical that the partnership has ended. Some fear that despite the trailer’s strong first impression, the final product could still be shaped by the same controversial design philosophies that plagued recent superhero titles.
Fan Backlash Already Building
On X and Reddit, threads are already filled with divided reactions. Excitement for Wolverine’s brutal combat is battling against dread that Sweet Baby Inc.’s involvement could undermine the game’s storytelling and character development.

Some fans are celebrating the trailer for its intensity while others are voicing skepticism, pointing back to past titles associated with SBI as reasons for concern. The trailer has therefore become both a moment of hype and a flashpoint for controversy.
Insomniac’s Reputation at Stake
For years, Insomniac has been Sony’s crown jewel, delivering hits like the first Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank. But in today’s climate, simply making a polished game isn’t enough—every studio is under the microscope. With SBI’s involvement, Insomniac risks alienating a vocal portion of the fanbase.

The studio is already in hot water with gamers after Spider-Man 2 leaned hard into identity politics, with Miles constantly being superior to Peter in the storyline along with side missions involving cultural appropriation, helping a male teenage as his boyfriend to a dance, and playing as a Black deaf woman.

If Wolverine lands well, it could restore confidence in both the studio and Sony’s AAA lineup. If it falters, it may cement SBI’s reputation as a brand-killer for the modern gaming era.
Conclusion
The Wolverine trailer delivered exactly what fans hoped to see—savage combat, iconic villains, and a promise of a darker tone than Insomniac’s past Marvel titles. But looming over it all is the question: how much influence will Sweet Baby Inc. have on the finished Wolverine game?

For now, the claws are out, but so are the doubts.

I would honestly rather miss a good game then pay for anything SBI was involved in. Even if they turn the wokeness down, legitimizing them does not lead to good things for gaming. SBI involvement should be treated like the appearance of poison in the ingrediants list of a soda. Sure, maybe this one micro dose of hemlock might not kill you, but is it worth the risk for a nice treat? And besides, how many micro doses till it adds up? Stay away. The only way they’re gonna learn.
Of course it’s going to be woke slop. Plus the gameplay itself is the usual QTE fest.

They have their limited uses, but modern games rely on them too much for “cinematic” purposes.
