Popstar Billie Eilish recently used an Instagram Story to go on a profanity-strewn rant against Elon Musk.
As Musk nears trillionaire status — the world’s first — many individuals like Eilish have criticized him for how he is or isn’t using his wealth. Before directing a colorful string of adjectives at Musk, Eilish linked her story to an Instagram post from the activist group My Voice, My Choice, which has a list of five things they believe Musk should do with his money.

It reads like a Miss America speech, beginning with, “End World Hunger.” Other suggestions include: cure disease, save endangered species, rebuild Gaza, and end maternity deaths. The photo carousel ends with, “What he does instead,” and a picture of Musk holding out his arm in what what critics online claimed resembled a white nationalist salute.
This isn’t the first time Eilish has called out the wealthy.
Eilish vs the Billionaires
Eilish was honored at this year’s WSJ Magazine Innovator Awards. When host Stephen Colbert brought her on stage, he announced that Eilish would be donating $11.5 million of the proceeds from her current tour to causes dedicated to food equity, climate justice, and reducing carbon pollution.

But for those in attendance, Eilish had a few choice words.
“Love you all, but there’s a few people in here who have a lot more money than me,” she said to a crowd that included Mark Zuckerberg and George Lucas. “And if you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? And no hate, but give your money away, shorties.”
Any hate Eilish spares billionaires apparently doesn’t extend to Musk.
Elon Musk Responds to Billie Eilish
In her November 14th post, Eilish called Musk a “f—ing pathetic p—- b—h coward” for what she perceives as his lack of interest in humanitarian causes. Users on X complained that they were tired of hearing about what one wealthy person thinks another should do with his money, and others were quick to comment that Musk’s considerable assets are not entirely liquid.

Two days later, in response to Eilish’s graphic tirade, the tech giant simply replied: “She’s not the sharpest tool in the shed.”

Eilish is currently on tour promoting her Grammy nominated song and record Wildflower. She may not take time for another jab at Musk — at least, not right away.
Overlapping Ecosystems
It’s unlikely that Eilish will take Musk’s observation to heart and stop offering unsolicited financial advice to the ultra-wealthy. As Variety notes, “a Grammy win would give her the chance to call out Musk and other billionaires on national television.”

For his part, Musk has probably dismissed Eilish’s name-calling. Right now he seems focused on building Grokipedia, which he intends “to be a massive open source repository of all knowledge about the Universe.” At the same time, he’s also working on Neuralink, to assist those with major injuries, and moving humanity closer to Mars with his SpaceX program.
As pop-culture, geo-politics, and technology continue to converge into an overlapping ecosystem thanks to social media, we’ll undoubtedly see more celebrities like Eilish looking for outrageous ways to call out Musk.
