Breaking News: Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind Opens May 27th

We had heard that the opening for Epcot’s new roller coaster, Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind, was scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend. By “heard,” we mean to say that we covered a leak from Geoff Morrell, a new Disney executive, who relayed the information on social media. It’s a little odd for a former spokesperson for the United States Department of Defense to be letting secret company info out, but I suppose everyone makes mistakes.

Now the confirmation has arrived. According to WDWNT, those interested in hopping aboard the most expensive roller coaster ever built can do so starting Friday, March 27th. Now when we say that it is the most expensive, remember that there were some extra costs incurred by the stoppage in work related to the pandemic. The original plans were actually even more grandiose with animatronics that never came to be. So although the project overshot the budget significantly and has slightly less than the first conceptualizations, this really is one of those “the pandemic sucks” situations. We can’t blame Disney too much this time. And, on a much brighter note, nothing has changed the very likely result which is Orlando’s most popular major attraction for years to come. Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind really is expected to be a new tier in roller coasters worldwide.

That Park Place writers will be on-site for the opening to carry the news and provide reviews. Of course, That Park Place writers are often in the parks, as is the case this week with multiple personnel bringing stories straight from Disney World. However, we do expect to have quite the struggle to make it onto the ride the first day, so pleasant comments will be very appreciated!
