Universal’s Islands of Adventure has filed a new construction permit that points to the possible development of a future attraction. Public records in Orange County, Florida, show that Universal City Development Partners has submitted a Notice of Commencement for work within the park. The filing lists Intamin as the contractor.
The permit describes the work as involving “specialty equipment,” a term commonly used in theme park construction for ride systems rather than general infrastructure. The document does not identify the attraction by name or specify the type of ride planned. Universal Orlando Resort has not announced the project publicly.
What the Permit Says
The permitted location corresponds to an area within the former Lost Continent section of Islands of Adventure. This section has seen reduced operations in recent years following the closure of Poseidon’s Fury, a walk-through attraction that ceased operation in 2023. Since that closure, Universal has not disclosed specific redevelopment plans for the area.

Intamin is an established, Switzerland-based manufacturer of amusement ride systems with projects in theme parks worldwide. At Islands of Adventure, the company manufactured Jurassic World VelociCoaster and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. Universal has worked with Intamin on multiple projects across its theme parks. Outside of Universal, the company has supplied ride systems for parks such as Six Flags, SeaWorld, and Cedar Fair, among others.

The Notice of Commencement identifies Universal City Development Partners as the property owner. That entity oversees development throughout Universal Orlando Resort. Notices of this type are typically filed before the installation of major equipment and may precede additional permits for vertical construction, electrical work, or theming.
Changes at Universal
Universal Orlando Resort has made several changes across its parks in recent years, including the retirement of older attractions and the introduction of new ride systems. The Lost Continent area has remained largely unused since Poseidon’s Fury closed, making it one of the remaining undeveloped spaces within Islands of Adventure.

The theatre is currently used just for guests to rest. The Mystic Fountain in Sindbad’s Bazaar is the last attraction in this section. It’s accompany ride, The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad, shut down years ago in 2018. This year, the fountain got a a How to Train Your Dragon overlay.
What’s Next?
Currently, there is a lot of speculation as to what Universal is planning next.
Some online speculate that the area could become an extension of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade or Jurassic Park.

Another theory is that Universal will transform the area of Hyrule of The Legend of Zelda. With its partnership with Zelda as a live-action of the game is being made, this could be another popular idea.
Still others suggest that Pokémon or One Piece will see their own themed area come to life.

Currently, the permits filed both now and earlier this year have given limited information as to what happens next. Universal is clearing the area, but no plans have been released. Stay tuned for what may be on the horizon.
