According to an alleged inside source for That Park Place, The Walt Disney Company may have observed a drop in Disney+ subscribers over the past weeks. Whether that alleged drop in subscriptions is due to the controversies surrounding the company and its political positions is up for debate. That Park Place authors are working to corroborate that claim, as well as find out what the number of subscription losses might be.

It is no surprise then that Disney is beginning to roll out the first major Disney+ perk that may be intended to help slow losses… and it may not be the last of its kind. The offer is for Disney+ subscribers to gain access to significant discounts for Disney World hotels during the summer months — a time when normally Disney would not be keen to give major savings since demand makes it unnecessary. Is Disney seeing a drop in summer reservations as well? It’s hard to say. Everything surrounding the conflicts within Disney and surrounding the Florida legislation has happened so fast that it has been, at times, difficult to keep up. We could, for example, imagine a scenario where out-of-state tourists choose other locations because they disagree with the Florida political direction. We could also foresee a time when conservative and moderate Disney World fans choose to go to Hilton Head or Charleston for their vacations. And, of course, it is within the realm of possibility that both of these phenomenons are occurring at the same time.

Okay, so that’s the rumor part of the article that we’re working to corroborate. The hard news is that Disney is making the Disney+ / Disney World cross-promotion a thing for summer. Here’s the public statement:

What’s everyone watching right now? If you’re like me, I’m guessing that many of you are still singing along to Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Encanto.” Well, to my fellow Disney+ subscribers, we’re going to want to talk about this!

For the first time, Disney+ subscribers can save on stays at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels most nights July 8 through Sept. 30, 2022. For more information, including how to make sure your Disney+ subscription is linked to your My Disney Experience account in order to book, visit DisneyWorld.com/DisneyPlus.

Disney+ is known for bringing hours of entertainment to your homes, and with our Disney Resorts Collection, you can immerse yourself in some of your favorite Disney tales.

Plus, when staying at a Disney Resort hotel, you can enjoy ease, convenience and special benefits:

  • More Time in the Parks: During the 50th Anniversary celebration, Disney Resort hotel guests can enjoy 30 minutes of early entry to any theme park every day! Plus, guests staying in Disney Deluxe or Deluxe Villa Resorts can also experience extended evening hours on select nights in select theme parks. For both of these options, guests will need valid theme park admission park reservation and Resort ID.
  • Get Around with Ease: Complimentary transportation options, such as the world-famous monorail, Disney Skyliner and water taxis make it easy and fun to travel around. Some Disney Resort hotels are even within walking distance of a theme park.
  • Magic Around Every Corner: The fun is seemingly endless at a Disney Resort hotel, where you can enjoy themed pools with waterslides, poolside activities and delicious dining experiences. You may even spot some familiar Disney friends palling around.

When it is time to head out to the theme parks, you can step right into the worlds of some of your favorite Disney+ movies or shows. Join Chef Remy in a culinary caper during Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at EPCOT, help the Resistance infiltrate the First Order in Star WarsRise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and enjoy more exciting experiences across all four theme parks.

Must be 18+ to subscribe to Disney+.

If you are a Disney+ subscriber planning to go to Disney World this summer, this is a fantastic opportunity. But is it the sort of thing that would slow down people dropping their Disney+ plan over either left-wing or right-wing frustration with the company? Probably not. It may, however, be meant more as a quick fix to say to customers that there are extra perks for keeping their accounts active… and thus be just the start of a bigger campaign.
