The project will repaint the castle’s exterior using a palette of grays, creams, blues, and gold accents. These colors are intended to reflect a classic scheme first used around the park’s opening, moving away from the more recent palette dominated by pastel-pink tones that had been in place since the resort’s 50th anniversary celebration.

Work began on January 5, 2026, when crews started preparing the structure for painting. Preparatory tasks include draining the moat that surrounds the castle so workers can access lower portions of the façade. The drainage also allows equipment such as scaffolding and lifts to be positioned closer to the surface of the building.
Plans shared by park sources indicate that cranes and other large equipment will be used to reach higher sections of the castle. Disney has committed to lowering and removing cranes from view by midday each operating day to reduce visual impact for park guests.

Disney has indicated that scheduled entertainment offerings near the castle front lawn may require adjustments due to the repainting. Shows such as Let the Magic Begin, Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire, and the Happily Ever After fireworks display could operate with minor staging changes or altered timing during the project.
Despite the work, these shows are expected to continue, and the castle remains accessible visually from Main Street, U.S.A. and surrounding walkways.
The repainting project is believed to be planned for completion later in 2026, though an exact finish date has not been publicly disclosed. The timing aligns with preparations ahead of Walt Disney World’s 55th anniversary, which falls on October 1, 2026.
Previous Paintjobs
Cinderella Castle first opened with Magic Kingdom in 1971. Since then, it has received periodic repaintings and maintenance work to preserve its appearance and protect exterior surfaces from heat, rain, humidity, and sun exposure common in central Florida. The most notable Cinderella Castle re-painting was when the entire structure was turned into a giant pink birthday cake for the resort’s 25th anniversary.

Like other repainting operations at theme parks, the current project involves crews working in phases so that key views and guest experiences remain as uninterrupted as possible. Guests in the park may see equipment, partially drained moat areas, and scaffolding at certain times of day, but work zones are managed to minimize interference.
The repainting will be one of the most visible maintenance efforts of the year at Walt Disney World. Officials have not indicated additional closures or significant operational disruptions tied directly to the castle’s repainting beyond adjustments to shows around the central plaza.
