Players have begun exploring Pokémon Pokopia, a life simulation game released for the Nintendo Switch 2 in early March 2026, and encountered a few bugs which Nintendo will address soon. The title introduces a different structure for the long-running Pokémon franchise.

Early technical updates are expected to address issues that appeared after launch.

The game launched on March 5, 2026. The project was developed with support from Koei Tecmo and teams connected to Game Freak. The game was published by Nintendo in cooperation with The Pokémon Company.

Bugs to Be Fixed

Several bugs in Pokémon Pokopia will be addressed in an upcoming update from The Pokémon Company.

Most of the fixes involve quest progression problems that can prevent players from completing certain requests or triggering scripted events.

  • Squirtle quest bug (“Let’s Build a Home!”)
During this request, Squirtle may climb a tree in the Withered Wasteland area and become stuck. When this occurs, players cannot interact with the character. This prevents the quest from being completed.
  • Bridge destruction issue in “Find the Pokémon Center!”
This bug occurs in the Bleak Beach area. If players destroy cracked bridge blocks before the related Pokémon crosses the bridge, the event can break. The quest may then fail to progress.
  • Bridge repair event not triggering
A related issue in the same Bleak Beach mission can occur if certain actions happen in the wrong order. In these cases, the bridge repair event may not trigger. Without the event, players cannot continue the quest.
  • Rotom encounter not activating
In the Rocky Ridges region, the scripted encounter with Rotom may fail to activate under specific conditions. When the event does not trigger, players may be unable to continue the area’s storyline.
  • “Clean Up the Roads!” quest issue
This request in Rocky Ridges can become difficult or impossible to complete. Certain environmental interactions can prevent the quest objectives from registering properly.
  • Incorrect Pokédex data for Spinarak
The Pokédex entry for Spinarak currently shows incorrect type information. The upcoming update will correct the entry so the Pokémon displays the proper classification.
  • Rock Smash quest clarity issue
In the Withered Wasteland request “Break the rocks with Rock Smash!” players can place blocks where cracked blocks should appear. This can make it unclear how to proceed with the objective.
  • Snorlax bridge quest confusion
A similar issue occurs in the Bleak Beach request “Take the Professor with you!” Placing the wrong block where a cracked block should be can make the intended path unclear. The update will adjust the quest to improve clarity.

A Different Structure for a Pokémon Game

Pokopia focuses on building and environmental restoration rather than battles. Players control a Ditto that has transformed into a human form. The character works to rebuild a damaged environment and create spaces where Pokémon can live.

Players gather resources, craft items, and build structures. They can also learn abilities from Pokémon to change the surrounding landscape. Some abilities help players grow plants or clear obstacles.

This structure blends life simulation and crafting systems. Some observers compared the design to games such as Animal Crossing or sandbox building titles.

Nintendo first revealed Pokopia during a Nintendo Direct presentation in September 2025.

Physical and Digital Distribution

Pokopia introduced a distribution format that has received attention from players. Some physical copies are sold as “Game-Key Cards.” These cartridges contain a key that allows the console to download the full game. The cartridge does not store the full game data. Players must download the software before they can play.

Nintendo has used this format before with selected third-party titles. Pokopia appears to be one of the first major Nintendo-published games to use the approach.

Many observers noted physical copies running low or running out shortly after release.

Multiplayer and Shared Spaces

Pokopia also includes cooperative elements. Players can invite others to visit their environments. The game allows users to develop towns that other players can explore. The design encourages collaborative building and shared progress. Multiplayer elements connect players through online systems on the Switch 2 platform.

The title also features dynamic weather and a day-night cycle tied to real-world time. These systems influence how environments change during gameplay.

First Event Underway

The first limited-time event in Pokémon Pokopia is currently underway.

The event, titled “More Spores for Hoppip,” began on March 9, 2026, and is scheduled to run until March 24, 2026. During the event, players can meet and assist Hoppip, which appears near the Pokémon Center and asks players to collect cotton spores scattered across special areas such as Dream Islands. Players can exchange these spores for limited-time rewards, including themed furniture and items used to build habitats. The event also allows players to encounter Skiploom and Jumpluff, which are tied specifically to the event and may not be available once it ends.

Ongoing Support Likely

Developers often continue supporting new releases during the months following launch. Updates for Pokopia may adjust technical performance, refine gameplay systems, or address reported bugs.

Future updates may focus on stability improvements and online features. Nintendo and its development partners have not announced a full update roadmap yet.

Players will likely learn more about future patches as the game’s community grows and developers track feedback.
