Universal Orlando Resort has scheduled several ride closures for refurbishment in 2026 affecting both Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Recently, Universal has added two more attractions to its list of refurbishments this year: Men in Black: Alien Attack at Universal and Me Ship: The Olive at Islands of Adventure.
These closures include routine refurbishments and one extended project lasting most of the year. Theme parks typically schedule maintenance during lower attendance periods, especially early in the year.
Right now, here is what we currently know.
Closures at Universal Studios Florida
Universal Studios Florida has experienced several short-term closures in 2026. These refurbishments are part of routine maintenance cycles.
Completed closures:
- Revenge of the Mummy
- Closed: January 15–21, 2026
- Hogwarts Express
- Closed: February 9–23, 2026
Scheduled closures:
- Men in Black: Alien Attack
- Scheduled closure: June 1–16, 2026
Men in Black: Alien Attack is an interactive dark ride located in Universal Studios Florida. Based on the Men in Black film series, the attraction places guests in the role of new MIB recruits tasked with defending Earth from an alien invasion. Riders board a track‑based vehicle equipped with laser blasters and travel through themed environments populated with animatronic alien characters, aiming to score points by targeting threats throughout the course.

The experience blends shooter‑style gameplay with detailed sets and special effects, and it has been a fixture of the park since opening in April 2000. These closures are temporary and typically last from several days to a few weeks.
Closures at Islands of Adventure
Islands of Adventure has a larger number of closures, including one extended refurbishment. The extended closure of Jurassic Park River Adventure represents the most significant impact. The project is expected to last nearly the entire year.
Current and ongoing closures:
- Jurassic Park River Adventure
- Closed: January 5–November 19 (Estimated), 2026
- Pteranodon Flyers
- Closed: February 27–May 14 (Estimated), 2026
Scheduled closures:
- Me Ship, The Olive
- Scheduled closure: April 19–25, 2026
Me Ship, The Olive is an interactive play area in the Toon Lagoon section of Universal’s Islands of Adventure designed primarily for younger guests and families. The attraction resembles a large, three‑story version of Popeye’s ship, featuring multiple levels of walkways, slides, stairs, cargo nets, and playful details that encourage exploration.
Props such as ship wheels, bells, and interactive elements are scattered throughout the structure, giving children a chance to climb, slide, and engage with the environment. A highlight of the play area is the water cannons on the second level, which allow kids to squirt water at riders passing by on the nearby Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge‑Rat Barges.
Planning Considerations for Visitors
Visitors should review ride availability before traveling. Universal updates its schedules regularly, but changes can occur.
Short-term closures may affect daily plans. However, most attractions remain open at any given time. Guests may experience longer wait times at popular rides due to shifting demand.
