“Star Wars: Andor” Already Receiving Cuts

Various sources are reporting that an interview with the director of photography for Star Wars: Andor, Adriano Goldman, has revealed that the original plan for the series was a five-season arc. However, in the same interview, Goldman goes on to state that the five season plan has been cut. Now, it seems the very best that Andor showrunners could hope for is a three-season order… but as of now, there are only two seasons on order.

Beyond just recognizing that the show has been cut by 40%, it’s important to note that there is no guarantee of a third season as is suggested. Two seasons have been ordered by Disney for their Disney+ streaming service, so it would seem the third is dependent on a successful audience metric. This news comes at a bad time for Star Wars as it has the potential to precede the series’ reveal at Star Wars Celebration with a bit of negative news… less than a month before its big moment.

Bespin Bulletin has since reported that Andor is almost certainly getting a trailer at the event, though they’re similarly uncertain whether the sneak peek will be released online.” — Comicbookmovie.net

If the series is already being cut from its original plan, that’s not a great sign of confidence out of either The Walt Disney Company or Lucasfilm. It’s certainly no indicator of whether the series will succeed but it is something we’ll all need to keep a watch on. It also could be dramatically impacted by the success or failure of the Kenobi series launching in late May.
