Is the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office Putting Pressure on the DA and Alec Baldwin?

Alec Baldwin is still not arrested.

Alec Baldwin was never arrested and was never charged.

He shot a woman with a gun and has admitted to pulling back and releasing the hammer.

I know I may sound like a broken record at this point but I’m going to keep saying it each and every time that I write about this. Because if you want to know what real privilege looks like, that’s it.

Now, things may be changing as it appears the Sheriff’s Office might be putting pressure on the District Attorney who has still not filed any charges:

“It’s hard to determine right now the route that the case is going to go. I’ve said this before, I think there was complacency on the set. There was disorganization and a degree of negligence – whether that rises to a criminal level, that’ll be up to the district attorney.”

— Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza on the “Today” Show

If you’re keeping track, Baldwin is not only the star of the ill-fated Rust movie set where he shot Halyna Hutchins, he’s also the producer and owns the company making the film. If there was a “degree of negligence,” that negligence is the fault of the company owned by Baldwin.

More important to my belief that Mendoza is putting pressure on the political leaders to do the right thing, they released a ton of information about the crime scene and the interviews. They say it’s because they want to be transparent. I say that’s bull excrement. Since when do police departments investigating potential murder charges release everything they know to be transparent? They almost never do because they want to hold everything for the trial and keep it away from potential jurors. If they’re putting it out there now, I think it’s to push the DA. Already in this trove of information we can see that Baldwin’s story has changed (my opinion, not objective fact). You can watch all of it and see if you think it lines up with what he would later tell in his ABC interview.

In fact, you can now clearly see that Baldwin pulled back and released the hammer in the killing shot released by the department:

Do I think that Alec Baldwin intended to kill someone and shoot another? No. Do I think this is negligent homicide for pointing a gun at someone without the proper protections in place and manipulating the hammer? You better believe it. If someone hands you a gun, you don’t point it at someone and you check the chamber. If you can’t do those industry standards, you don’t deserve to be living free without even a charge against you. There was no reason whatsoever for anyone to be directly in front of the gun.

But that’s just my opinion from someone who doesn’t point guns at people.
