Rumors have emerged about possible changes to Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland, as evidence suggests two locations—Big Al’s and Westward Ho—may be closing or undergoing operational adjustments. Disney has not released any official announcement regarding these venues. However, the absence of operating dates on the Disney World app has raised questions among visitors.

Overview of the Locations

Big Al’s offers Frontierland-themed merchandise, including apparel such as t-shirts and coonskin hats, collectible items like mugs and pins, and general souvenirs for guests looking to take home keepsakes from the land. The store shows no available operating dates after May 11, 2026.

Westward Ho provides quick-service snacks and beverages, including popcorn, churros, soft drinks, bottled water, and light refreshments designed for guests on the go. The kiosk as no available operating dates after June 22, 2026.

Context of Frontierland Changes

Many Disney fans theorize that these may be the next Frontierland locations to be closed as construction continues for Piston Peak, an upcoming Car’s themed land. Removing the two locations in questions would provide additional space for construction and theming elements.

Frontierland at Magic Kingdom has already experienced a series of operational adjustments and temporary closures . These changes are part of Disney’s broader effort to refresh the area and integrate new attractions.

Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America were permanently closed July 6, 2025. These closures removed the river-based experiences and boat access that had been central to Frontierland since Magic Kingdom’s opening day.

Operational and Guest Considerations

Temporary or permanent operational adjustments are common in Disney parks. Guests who typically visit Big Al’s or Westward Ho may need to plan alternatives this summer.

Big Al’s has traditionally provided Frontierland-themed merchandise, including t-shirts, hats, mugs, pins, and novelty souvenirs that are unique to the shop. Guests seeking similar items can visit Frontier Trading Post, which offers apparel, collectibles, and general Frontierland-themed souvenirs, or Pioneer Hall, which carries apparel, pins, figurines, and small keepsakes. While both locations provide merchandise comparable to Big Al’s, some unique novelty items specific to Big Al’s may not be available elsewhere.

Nearby alternatives for food include Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe, a counter-service restaurant with Southwestern-inspired meals.

Looking Ahead

The status of Big Al’s and Westward Ho remains unconfirmed. Until Disney provides official information, the absence of operating dates is the primary evidence suggesting possible changes. Visitors should check the Magic Kingdom website or app for the latest updates on open locations and attractions.
