Here at That Park Place, one of our most important topics is travel. We know that vacations are just at your fingertips and many of you love to find great golf courses for your destinations. Well, with a name like John Golf, who else would be better at finding great greens? We’re starting a new series of reviews for golf courses, starting today with the Chattanooga area known as The Scenic City.

It’s springtime and the golf clubs have been polished. The Masters Golf Tournament completed. Most golf courses in the Chattanooga/North Georgia area increase tee times dramatically around the time the Masters Tournament is played.

Working part time at a public golf course, I can attest that tee times are hard to find at certain times of the day for working men and women. Most golf courses allow you to book a tee time within 5 days of playing. I have seen firsthand that several gentlemen play at the same time every day and usually with the same people.

If you are traveling through the Chattanooga/North Georgia area, here are just a few public courses worth looking into for your next golf venture:

Brainerd Golf Course

It has been a while since I’ve played this course, but I remember thinking how remarkable the course was. It was challenging for me, like most golf courses are right now, but it was a fun course to play. This was found on their website:

As one of the city’s oldest, this course was designed by architect, Donald Ross, and features lots of rolling acreage and mature trees. The course has a full-service pro shop and snack bar and leagues and lessons are readily available for all ages and abilities. A full-service snack bar and pro shop are located in the renovated turn of the century clubhouse.

Tee times are available up to 5 days in advance.

  • 18 holes
  • Pro Shop
  • Snack Bar
  • Tee Times 7 Days a Week

18-Hole Green Fees Monday – Friday Weekends/Holidays
Regular: M-F $23;   Weekend: $28
Seniors (60 and up): M-F $17;   Weekend $28
Juniors (Under 18) M-F $5;   Weekend: $28

18-hole cart rental is $14.00 per golfer. City residents are entitled to a $2.00 discount on 18-hole green fees.

All currency is in USD.

Moccasin Bend Golf Course

I love playing this course. I may be a little partial to this course because I shot my best score ever at this course. The course is wide open with a few holes where water comes into play. Here is a little more info from their website:

Built in 1966, Moccasin Bend`s golf course is an 18-Hole Championship course with water frequently coming into play. At 6469 yards from the back tees, our Par-72 bentgrass golf course is a virtual heaven in Southern Tennessee.

Four sets of tees keep the golf course appealing to every skill level while our Bermuda grass fairways keep the golf course appealing to every eye. We invite all to enjoy one of the most naturally beautiful spots in all of Chattanooga!

Green fees are $26.09 for weekends and $21.51 for weekdays. The daily cart fee is $9.61.

Trenton Golf Club in Trenton, Georgia, USA | GolfPass

Trenton Golf Club

Located a short southwest drive from Chattanooga is the Trenton Golf Club. I have not had any experience at this course yet. I will soon. I’m writing on this one based upon my brother’s suggestion that this one needs to be southeast added to my list. Here is a small bit from their website:

The course is in a beautiful valley offering fabulous views of Lookout, Sand, and Fox Mountains.

Prepare yourself for an unparalleled golfing experience. Our course is a pleasure for golfers of any skill level to play. Trenton Golf Club will challenge you while providing a relaxing, picturesque backdrop. Test your accuracy with our fairways, water hazards, and sand traps; we have everything you need to challenge you and improve your game. All in all, our goal is to provide you with a quality experience that includes exceptional service and a comfortable atmosphere.

Nob North Golf Course – Amazing Golf Course

Nob North Golf Course

This course is one of my favorites to play. It’s quite challenging but the course is in fabulous shape. It’s located about 25 minutes southeast of Chattanooga in a small community above Varnell, GA. One of the gentlemen I played golf with a couple of weeks ago said that you can’t find a better golf course for the money. He’s right. Nob North has just brought in a new fleet of carts with GPS. They’re really nice. Here’s some info from their website:

Located in the hills of Whitfield County, GA, Nob North offers a picturesque and challenging 18 hole layout that offers both a challenge to the expert golfer as well as a pleasant afternoon out for the casual player.

*New* Dynamic Pricing At Nob North Golf Course

By definition, dynamic means “constant change.” At Nob North, we prefer to view dynamic as “progress.” This progress will allow golf rates to be adjusted – both lower and higher – in real-time, based on demand, availability and other changing factors. This method of pricing has been utilized by airlines, hotels and your favorite sports teams for years.

With rates changing frequently, Dynamic Pricing gives you the ability to choose the RIGHT rate for you, at the RIGHT time for you, on the RIGHT day for you.

You can book your tee time online by signing in (if you’re already registered) or registering (if you’re new to our system). If you prefer to speak with a golf associate (may include a $ surcharge), please call (706) 694-8505 and select the desired option from our greeting menu.

I’ll be headed to Nob North later today. Hopefully, I’ll be able to play well. If not, at least I’ll be on a beautiful course on a beautiful day. I just hope I can hit ’em long and straight, except on the doglegs.

Be blessed and safe travels!!!
