PlayStation managed to score an embarrassing self-inflicted L while promoting Final Fantasy VII Revelation, apparently forgetting what one of the most recognizable video game characters on the planet looks like.
The official PlayStation account posted footage from Square Enix’s upcoming finale to the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy on Thursday, highlighting new gameplay shown at Tokyo Game Show.

There was just one problem.
The company said, “Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind show off their Final Fantasy VII Revelation combat abilities,” in the official post. But the character fighting alongside Cid in the attached footage wasn’t Vincent Valentine.
It was Cloud Strife.
X users promptly slapped PlayStation with a Community Note containing an absolutely brutal correction: “That’s Cloud.”

The note even linked to Cloud Strife’s Wikipedia page, just in case the official account for the platform most closely associated with the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy needed some additional assistance identifying the game’s protagonist.
The mistake is particularly funny considering PlayStation’s own accompanying article correctly discusses the demo and its characters. PlayStation Blog’s Tokyo Game Show hands-on report explains that both Vincent and Cid are newly playable characters in Revelation, with Vincent utilizing gunplay and monster transformations.
Somewhere between that article and PlayStation’s social media account, however, Cloud apparently became Vincent.
An Awkward Time for PlayStation to Forget Cloud
Beyond the comedy of PlayStation failing to identify Cloud Strife, there’s another wrinkle here.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation represents a major change in Sony’s relationship with Square Enix’s remake trilogy: this is the first game in the trilogy that will not debut as a PlayStation console exclusive.
The original Final Fantasy VII Remake launched exclusively on PlayStation 4 in April 2020, with its announced timed-exclusivity period lasting for a year. The PC version didn’t arrive until December 2021.

Then came Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which launched exclusively on PlayStation 5 on February 29, 2024. PC players waited until January 2025, while Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 owners didn’t get the game until June 2026.
That arrangement is over for the trilogy’s conclusion.
Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches simultaneously on April 8, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

That makes PlayStation’s social media blunder even more amusing.
Sony’s platforms received preferential treatment for the first two installments of one of Square Enix’s biggest franchises. Now that the third game is launching everywhere at once, the official PlayStation account can’t even tell Cloud Strife from Vincent Valentine.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation Goes Everywhere
Square Enix has spent much of 2026 dismantling the platform barriers surrounding the trilogy. Remake Intergrade and Rebirth are now available across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, and the publisher specifically described the move as expanding the Final Fantasy VII Remake project across “all modern platforms.”
Revelation completes that transition by eliminating the timed PlayStation-first launch altogether.

The game will conclude the enormous remake project more than seven years after Final Fantasy VII Remake debuted in 2020, bringing Cloud, Cid, Vincent — yes, they are three different people, PlayStation — and the rest of the party into their final confrontation with Sephiroth.
Maybe somebody should print out a character sheet before the next social media post.
