Internet privacy just took a major hit and anonymous-lovin’ users are not happy at all.
Discord is about to make messages from public channels in Discoverable Servers easier to find on Google and other search engines, and the default for most adults outside a short list of countries is on. The company spelled out the plan in its own product blog, with Help Center pages covering the toggles.
Discoverable Servers are Discord’s most public spaces: at least 1,000 members, old enough and active enough to list in Server Discovery so anyone can join without an invite. More than 63,000 servers sit in that bucket today.

Starting Nov. 16th, 2026, every Discoverable Server gets a Server Web Page if it doesn’t already have one. Those pages can show automated Channel Summaries of what public channels are talking about. From mid-December 2026, some messages from opted-in public channels can appear on those pages and in web search results.
Usernames and avatars won’t ride along with those messages. Private servers, DMs, and group DMs stay out of the program entirely. Only Discoverable Servers are in scope.
For gamers, the upside is obvious: build advice, boss tips, and patch clarifications that used to live only inside a server could surface when someone searches from a browser. The downside is equally obvious if you treated a “public” channel as public-to-
You don’ t hate Discord enough. Discord is letting search engines index all your public chat. Turn this off…you are opted in automatically. They were quiet about it too. Discord doesn’t really care about you anymore. You are the product. https://t.co/ExEt5CHXh4

members rather than public-to-Google.
Discord says channels that can appear on the web will be labeled before you post, and only messages sent after the mid-December rollout are eligible. Older chat isn’t scraped into the new web surface under the rules described in the blog.

Defaults vary by region. In the EU, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia, and South Korea, the member setting for Channel Messages starts off because of local rules. Teen accounts are excluded. Everywhere else, the member setting starts on unless you flip it.
How to Opt Your Own Messages Out
Open User Settings, then Data and Privacy, and turn off the control for showing your message content from Discoverable channels on web pages. One switch covers every Discoverable Server you belong to.
If you leave it on and later change your mind, new messages stop going to the web view. Messages you already sent while the setting was on stay until you delete them inside Discord. Planning ahead before mid-December is the cleanest move if you want a blank slate.
What Server Admins Can Do Today
Admin controls are live under Server Settings, then Web Presence. You can choose which channels participate, or opt every channel out before Nov. 16th. If you change nothing, public channels stay eligible, the Server Web Page goes live on that November date if needed, and Channel Messages can begin rolling out in mid-December.
Admins can also curate or disable Channel Summaries. Those summaries are separate from verbatim messages and still appear on Server Web Pages unless leadership turns them off.
Communities that want a wiki-style public brain can leave strategy and FAQ channels on. Communities that treat Discord as a semi-private clubhouse should flip the Web Presence switches now, before search crawlers ever see a sentence.
What Gamers Should Decide Before December
Check whether your main clan, MMO, or competitive server is Discoverable. If it is, read the channel labels and decide if your tips, tilted vent posts, or real-name chatter belong on a results page.
Then hit the Data and Privacy toggle if you want a personal veto, and nudge mods to publish a clear Web Presence policy so the whole roster isn’t guessing. Discord’s own blog is the canonical checklist; Engadget and Android Authority have also walked through the same switches for readers who want a third-party summary.
