The Walt Disney Company is reportedly preparing another massive round of layoffs that could eliminate thousands of jobs across its entertainment empire, even as some of its most profitable divisions continue reporting impressive financial results.
According to a new Bloomberg report, Disney executives have been instructed to identify potential annual cost savings of approximately 20%, with significant workforce reductions reportedly under consideration.
The proposed reductions would represent another major restructuring effort for Disney, which has already eliminated thousands of positions over the past several years.
Thousands of Disney Jobs Reportedly on the Chopping Block
The reported cost-cutting initiative is unfolding under CEO Josh D’Amaro, who is looking to streamline operations while redirecting resources toward other company priorities.
While the precise number of affected employees remains unknown, Bloomberg reports that thousands of positions could ultimately disappear.
The 20% figure reportedly being discussed refers to potential cost savings rather than a specific workforce reduction target. Nevertheless, personnel expenses are among the areas under consideration.

Disney’s television, film, and theme park businesses could all face scrutiny as management evaluates where additional savings might be achieved.
According to Reuters, Disney declined to comment on the reported plans.
The potential reductions would come as Disney continues investing heavily in theme park expansions, cruise ships, technology, and entertainment production.
Another Round of Cuts Following Years of Restructuring
The latest reports are particularly striking considering Disney’s extensive history of workforce reductions under former CEO Bob Iger.
In 2023, Disney announced plans to eliminate approximately 7,000 positions as part of a $5.5 billion cost-saving initiative. Those reductions affected numerous divisions, including entertainment, television, and corporate operations.
Additional layoffs continued throughout subsequent years, raising questions about when the company’s restructuring efforts would finally conclude.

More recently, Disney reportedly eliminated another 100 to 200 positions within its Experiences division, including employees associated with Walt Disney Imagineering.
Those reductions were particularly noteworthy because Disney’s theme park business has remained one of the company’s strongest financial performers.
The Experiences division recently reported operating income exceeding $3 billion, representing approximately 20% growth, alongside revenue approaching $10 billion.
Despite those results, Disney continues looking for ways to reduce expenses throughout the organization.
Disney’s Profitability Raises Questions About Its Priorities
The contrast between Disney’s financial performance and its continuing workforce reductions deserves scrutiny.
Companies routinely adjust staffing levels to improve efficiency, and profitability doesn’t necessarily mean every department is operating effectively. However, repeated layoffs across multiple years suggest Disney’s restructuring efforts are far from finished.
For employees, the prospect of another major round of reductions creates additional uncertainty following years of organizational upheaval.

For consumers, the question is whether Disney can continue reducing staffing without compromising the quality of its entertainment offerings, theme park experiences, and customer service.
D’Amaro’s leadership was supposed to mark a new chapter for the entertainment giant. Instead, his tenure is already being defined in part by another potentially substantial workforce restructuring.
Disney has not officially announced the reported layoffs, and their ultimate scope remains uncertain.
Nevertheless, if Bloomberg’s reporting proves accurate, thousands of Disney employees could soon find themselves paying the price for the company’s latest effort to improve its bottom line.
