Rumor: Disney Has “Silenced” Pixar to Prevent PR Problems

The noisiest studio at Disney is suddenly not making very much noise. Has Pixar lost its buzz?

We had been hearing for a little while that The Walt Disney Company might be keen on preventing Pixar and its associates from making public statements about Lightyear following the disastrous opening for the film. It does seem surprising outside of that rumor that Pixar would stay so silent on the sidelines. For it was Pixar that leaked they wanted to make the little girl in Luca, Guilia, a member of the LGBTQIA community… but they were not able to put a girlfriend in the movie for her (recall that the characters are around ten years old). It was also Pixar that leaked they were “devastated” that Turning Red would not be allowed to go to theaters. It was Pixar that publicly accused Disney CEO Bob Chapek of overhanded censorship as part of an organized effort to overturn the company’s policies and stop Chapek from moderating Disney away from politics.

Nearly every moment of overtly gay affection is cut at Disney’s behest, regardless of when there is protest from both the creative teams and executive leadership at Pixar. Even if creating LGBTQIA+ content was the answer to fixing the discriminatory legislation in the world, we are being barred from creating it. — Pixar

So you would think that now, with Lightyear bombing, Pixar would be leaking their own internal messaging like crazy. After all, when Disney takes a position that Pixar doesn’t like, Pixar seems to be the only studio inside the House of Mouse that somehow gets its views into the media. Surely there is someone or something to blame, other than Pixar, which Pixar employees would love to tell us all about? But all we have is silence now…
