Guest Services Slammed Aboard Disney Wish Cruise Ship

Are you ready to embark on the Disney Wish? Maybe wait a little bit while they work out some of the stresses early guests are experiencing.

Things are a little rough at sea for Disney and their cruise ships. It’s never easy to jumpstart a massive endeavor like a fleet of cruise ships after a pandemic. In fact, that may be the most difficult endeavor Disney is attempting right now. I would not want to be in charge of figuring out the logistics of anything close to that sort of thing. But they’re doing it and there’s a ton of money invested in the business. As you might expect, however, it’s not without it’s major hiccups.

Last week we featured in an article on our main page (where we highlight articles from around the web) that one of the Disney cruise ships was having significant propulsions issues. That resulted in the Disney Wonder having to skip one of their destination ports in Alaska, refund passengers and put out official statements. That’s certainly on fun, but it seems par the course when you’ve had huge vessels not running trips as usual for the last few years.

Disney Wonder Forced to Skip Port Due to Propulsion Problems

Now, we’re hearing from guests aboard the brand-new Disney Wish that there may be some logistical and layout issues with Disney’s marvel of the sea. And honestly, they may be significant enough that I would advise people to delay a vacation aboard the ship until these things are worked out.

You see the line of guests waiting for “guest services” as late as 11:10 PM? That’s not usual. And there are two reasons we’ve been told that the line is wrapping around the ship when guests are usually ready to turn in for bed. First, for whatever reason they seem to have decided to make the Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge (see: Olga’s Cantina on water) reservations only available via guest services. That creates a massive bottleneck that just doesn’t make any sound planning sense. The other issue we’ve heard is that many guests are experiencing Wi-Fi problems. So imagine being in line for internet and you’re waiting with the same people who are trying to buy some Star Wars themed booze. You can see how that would be frustrating.

Likewise, according to TPE, the ship is crowded with high-end retail when body space is in higher demand:

Are any of these deal-breakers for the ship? No, of course not. But I think I might wait a few months to let Disney iron all of this out before I plunk down $4,000 for a three-night cruise. That’s some serious vacay money and I want things to be right. I’m not broke or close to it, but I know the value of money — so I want to get the most out of what I’m going to spend. Some people may be interested in dropping $5,000 for a bit of dry ice fog in a toy container; I’m not one of them.

Will the Disney Wish be the ultimate ship on the seas soon? I think yes. But I’m waiting until I’m sure before I make my reservations.
