In spite of all the crazy things going on in entertainment, there are some signs that the major media companies are ready to pivot back to the middle.
We’re finally beginning to see signs that the major entertainment companies have had their fill of woke and leftist policies. They already stayed clear of anything approaching the right or conservatism, so now we’re hopeful that at the least the corporations will trend towards middle-left and centrist viewpoints. Frankly, I’d like for them to be apolitical and as broadly approachable by the largest swath of demographics possible. And though their content in pipelines will take years to flush through before we see that sort of movement out of studios (who probably won’t like it very much by the way), business decisions are immediate and a different story. That’s why there are two important events I think we need to notice. Perhaps they are the first signs of movement away from political and ideological extremism.
First, let’s brag on Netflix for a moment. Not only as the company made the decision to leave Dave Chappell’s content up, but now they’re fully defending Bill Burr. That’s not easy given the heat in the country about the abortion issue. Even though Burr seems to be pro-choice and moderate on the position, Hollywood companies don’t exist in a land where such a thing allowed. That’s why leaving Burr’s monologue on abortion up, despite intense backlash on the coasts, is a heck of a thing for Netflix to choose to do.
Here’s what Burr says in the special:
“I’m 100 percent pro-choice – always have been. Always have been. … Pro-choice always made sense to me. Because I don’t like people telling me what to do. And I always was just like, ‘It’s your body? Who the [expletive] am I to tell you what to do with your body?’ So that always made sense, alright?
“However, I still think you’re killing a baby,” he said to laughter from the audience. “See? That’s where it gets weird. Like, I sit on the fence, and the whole thing makes sense to me.”
“… If we’re gonna be honest, that is the whole purpose of the procedure,” he said of the pro-life argument that the procedure kills a living baby. “You know, you’re not going in there because you got an earache. You’re going in there because you’re like, ‘I got a baby in there. Get it the [expletive] out of here.’ Right? You walk in with a baby, you come out without one. What happened to the baby? Something [expletive] happened. So pro-choice people are like, ‘Well, it’s not a life yet. It’s not a baby yet.’ My gut tells me that doesn’t make sense,” he said.

So there’s example number one of a major entertainment company being on the side of free speech. Burr isn’t even being anti-abortion or pro-life or whatever you want to call it… he’s just verbalizing the quandary of the issue. In previous months and years, there’s no way that would have been allowed. A very vocal and small minority would have raised hell and the company would have caved. Not so much anymore now that stock prices are dropping due to companies siding with woke extremists.
It’s not just Netflix though. We’re also starting to see progress out The Walt Disney Company in terms of moving towards the middle. And remember, I’m not arguing for any of these companies to move to the right. I don’t want them to. I want them out of politics. I want them in the sensible center and back to the business of entertaining liberals, conservatives, libertarians, socialists, and everybody else who has a mind that can be entertained. So I think it’s great that Disney, which owns Hulu, is now forbidding political ads from both the right and left to go up on their platform. The left is furious… I think the right is used to it. But even though the left is furious, it’s not moving the needle so far. Disney is holding firm and refusing to put divisive commercials on Hulu. More importantly, this is likely a proxy war as one political party knows what they really want is access to Disney+ commercials coming online in the fall and winter.
“Hulu’s censorship of the truth is outrageous, offensive, and another step down a dangerous path for our country,” the executive directors of the three committees, Christie Roberts, Tim Persico and Noam Lee, said in a statement provided to The Washington Post. “Voters have the right to know the facts about MAGA Republicans’ agenda on issues like abortion — and Hulu is doing a huge disservice to the American people by blocking voters from learning the truth about the GOP record or denying these issues from even being discussed.”
The party committees join a growing list of Democratic candidates who have had spots mentioning gun violence, abortion or political violence rejected by Hulu.

If you’re the type of person who is hoping for everybody to cool their jets and come back to a moderate position, there’s some hope out of these entertainment companies. Sure, they’re busy turning Obi-Wan Kenobi into queer representation and having Lando dream about weird romantic robot interludes, but those are the wacko creatives that will be flushed out over time. These companies have to make money, a recession is on the way and I don’t see any likely path other than most of them getting rid of the toxicity that has consumed them.
I could be wrong. A particular political movement is heavily entrenched in Hollywood. I fully recognize that another option is that the entertainment will bifurcate with companies like The Daily Wire taking advantage of disenfranchised conservatives who aren’t satisfied with mainstream movies and shows. But I have a hard time believing that Disney, Netflix and the rest are going to give away those easy dollars without a fight — even if that fight means purging the crazies out of their camps.

Update 12:00 PM, July 127th:
WDW Pro is aware that Disney how now modified the Hulu policy to allow for political ads. However, there’s more at play. An additional article will be out later today addressing what is likely going on behind the scenes.

Disney moving HQ from Anaheim to Orlando would be a big step in the right direction. ‘The Cult’ seems fully entrenched in SoCal.
That would just mean moving the cult from the wasteland that is modern Cali to Florida…………. don’t be stupid enough to think that will change anything.
‘The Cult’ members wouldn’t relocate to a state run by someone they consider the next Orange Man.
A forced move might get some of them to move. That would be an issue. The author is right in that this religion is firmly entrenched in Cali.
Of course they would. There are literally Leftists moving to states merely to change the outcome of elections. Don’t think they wouldn’t see this as another opportunity to do the same.
Personally, I think if Disney is smart and plays this correctly as well as has the vision to see it through, they really don’t need Hollywood.
Hollywood is too politically entrenched. It has its own baggage.
However, when you take a look at what Disney has in terms of what they own:
They own their own theme parks.
They own Hulu.
They own Disney Plus
They own Comcast
They own ABC
They own ESPN
They own multiple movie studios and their own recording lots.
Point being, Disney already owns much of what Hollywood has to offer anyway.
Strategically, if I were Disney I would buy out a movie theater chain.
At that point, because of the infrastructure Disney already has, they could begin to rival Hollywood and if Hollywood wanted to use methods of retribution to block Disney movies from being shown in theaters, that would be the point of Disney owning their own theater chain.
From there I could eventually see something where people who are tired of wokeness in Hollywood would go to Disney to work. They could have their own acting guild, which would open the door for Gina Carano to be brought back, as if the actors formed a politically neutral guild, she would not be blackballed.
Disney may be the only company in the world that could start setting up a rival Enterprise that could counter Hollywood and eventually make them obsolete.
They could even have their own awards show – sure wouldn’t be as prestigious as the Oscars now, but you got to start somewhere.
“And the Mickey/Minnie award goes to…..”
Disney IS Hollywood.
Disney better end this stupid woke agenda soon, because my family is boycotting it. I blame Bob Iger for this!
