It is a great day for the Duffer Brothers and everyone involved in the Netflix series, Stranger Things. For Lucasfilm and Star Wars, the opposite is true.
Stranger Things’ finale episodes are now being registered by Nielsen and the minutes watched is quite impressive. The total airtime across North America, according to Nielsen, nearly topped six billion. That’s close to the incredible record the show put up upon its Season Four debut, but the debut featured far more hours of content than the finale. So to see such a number off of four-hours of new content is something very impressive. If our numbers are right, that’s about twenty-four million screens that likely tuned into the Netflix phenomenon for its last two showings. Even if we consider that some people could have been catching up, that’s still twenty million at least.
That’s a lot of screens.
Pos, Platform, Title, Minutes Watched in Millions
| 1 | Netflix | Stranger Things | 5,911 | |
| 2 | Netflix | The Umbrella Academy | 2,219 | |
| 3 | Amazon | The Terminal List | 1,106 | |
| 4 | Amazon | The Boys | 951 | |
| 5 | Hulu | Only Murders In The Build | 526 | |
| 6 | Netflix | Snowflake Mountain | 492 | |
| 7 | Netflix | The Upshaws | 444 | |
| 8 | Netflix | Peaky Blinders | 392 | |
| 9 | Hulu | The Bear (2022) | 349 | |
| 10 | Netflix | Ozark | 330 |
It’s also important to note just how popular The Terminal List has become. That’s a major win for Amazon which gets two series into the top five. The Terminal List easily outperforms the highest points of Disney+ with their Kenobi series. And as for Obi-Wan Kenobi, one week after its finale, it’s completely gone off the top ten. Worse for Disney+, the theory that Ms. Marvel would appear on the top ten once Kenobi was gone has turned out to not be true. The Disney backlash continues to be a real thing and Disney continues to struggle to get any of their huge budget series to even be in the same league as Netflix and Amazon top performers. I mean, what do you want to call Kenobi other than a failure when its peak was septupled by Stranger Things? Septupled. You don’t normally hear that sort of thing because at that point you’re not comparing similar concepts.

And when it comes to movies, it’s not getting any better for Disney. Netflix dominated them there as well with both Sing 2 and A Man From Toronto coming in with more watched minutes than Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It would appear the box office conundrum Disney finds itself in is the same on streaming.

How long does the house has to burn before the firefighters show up?
*have
What’s the point of the firefighters showing up if all they are going to do is nothing?
Looks like it’s the end of Disney. I blame the stupid woke agenda!

They’re not going to die that easily.
Obi Wan Kenobi has been beaten by the cultural powerhouse of… [checks notes] …the Upshaws.
Pretty pathetic standing. Disney has indeed fallen.
You act like they’re officially dead and gone forever.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most popular Star Wars characters in the franchise. This is a multi-billion dollar franchise, alone, with the backing of one of the largest corporations on the planet… and his show failed to wind up in the top 10.
That’s pathetic, but what’s worse is that the ones in charge don’t give a crap. There’s an agenda and those in charge of Disney (not Chapek or the board) see their losses as investments in propaganda for cultural change.
They’re destroying the culture, before they replace with new culture. That’s their agenda right now.
It was in the Top 10 for a while but even then Star Wars wasn’t going to be the Stranger Things killer even if it was perfect.
